Anyone read The Walking Dead? STRICTLY the funnybook...

I know the show is quite popular and for good reason but I, myself, cannot stand it. Huge fan of the comic though. I find it to be a perfect companion to George A. Romero's first-and-last-word-on-the-subject's films. Well, his zombie films, I mean. Haha.

But in all seriousness, though, does anyone here read The Walking Dead? Normally I'd keep my mouth shut about the thing but seeing as the book is about to begin the biggest story arc yet in ten years I figured I'd might as well ask.

I don't have many folks to talk to about the book (save for those I share my copies with) so it'd be cool to discuss it with fellow fans.

P.S. - I'm waiting for The Warrior of the Wasteland... The Ayatollah of Rock 'n' Rolla... THE HUMUNGUS (to show up and squash all four factions, that is, and let the guzzoline flow)!

Yup, since issue 1. After issue 75 I stopped buying the floppies and just focus on the trades.

got them all digitally, if the show goes anywhere near the current story in a couple seasons, it's gonna make for some interesting television, especially at some milestone moments (issue 100 for example).

I really hope the show from this point on does not follow the comic. The biggest issue I have with the show (aside from what I consider to be a weak story and horrible character development sans the Dixon brothers who happen to be the only thing not originating from the book) is that it is not the comic, which is the way it should be, yet feels it necessary to hit specific points that happen in the comic. It's two totally different stories that happen to start with the same basis and should not, in any way, reflect one another. That aside, however...

This is the only monthly comic that I read. I love Seth, Jeffrey Brown, James Kochalka and, should he manage to pull himself away from his pornography-induced stupor, Joe Matt. I can't really say that Robert Kirkman is a great writer but he definitely does know how to write this particular story that pulls me in and by the end of every issue leaves me wanting for more.

Given how popular zombies have been in the past ten years I am surprised that the book isn't nearly as widespread as it ought to be, especially considering how poorly done most of the popular zombie films have been.

Do the books read like the comics? I have never read either but I do enjoy the show. I have heard the show isn't that great when compared to the books. I really have no want to start a comic or a book collection but a e-book collection does not take up much room.

The collected editions (containing six issues apiece) are roughly $15 apiece whereas the individual issues are $2.99.

This is probably my mistake here so I should mention that I have a habit of calling comic books either comics or books, but I'll make a point not to do that if I can help it. Sorry about that!

On the subject of books though, there are two novels that deal with the Governor and Woodbury. I haven't read them myself so I can't comment on them.

yeah, my bad. i meant the hardcover collected editions. im up to volume 8 on those, which means ive read up to issue #96 of the comics.

i have both of the novels about the Governor & Woodbury. they are excellent. both of them blew me away, and this was after i already had been blown away several times by the comics. READ THEM.

I'm not sure what the prices would be in Canada but on Amazon you can pick up both Compendiums (each one collecting 48 issues) for roughly $25 USD apiece so that's give you the first 96 issues. Seeing as the series is about to hit issue 113 in a week and a half that's a pretty good deal if I may say so myself. It's worth looking into if you don't want to spend a lot of money on something you're unsure about whether or not you'll dig it.

I love the Walking Dead comics! My brother got me into them one time when I had to apartment-sit for him. He had the first compendium sitting on his coffee table, I decided to read it, and I think I read half of it in one sitting lol. I've got both compendiums now, as well as Volume 17 of the comics that goes through issue 102, so that's as far as I have gotten. Looking forward to see what happens in Volume 18.

My NES collection count: 757 games (16 to go for a full set)

Latest Purchase(s): Snow Brothers

"Wait...Bimmy and Jimmy??  How'd they make a mistake like this!?  Bimmy isn't even a real name!"

Beware the Bimmy Marsh!

Wow, the only books I ever find at my local thrift stores are high school yearbooks from the '60s and '70s. Can't wait to hear your thoughts on the story!

Okay, I am not sure on how folks 'round this campus feel about bumping a thread this old (listen to me sound like a real live innerwebber!), but I need some people to talk to about this book. Seriously.

Spoilers ahead, mind you...

The war is in full swing and Negan is becoming the consistently best character in the book. Rick has gone from hero to whackjob to unlikable to reluctant hero, all the while Negan seems to be the voice of reason. It makes me kind of sad that the show gets so much attention yet the comic is just disregarded by most. I have no idea where this arc is headed but after the issue that came out this week, I am rooting for Negan. Or Dwight. That guy has some serious potential.
