Everyone make note that point racking/pressing IS allowed since there is a timer in this game.

This will be very interesting.
Too bad this isn't a low score contest. Now, that would be interesting!

I think this would be a horrible game for a low score contest. You'll either have relatively high scores (around 700 - 900k toward the end of the game, or very, very low scores in the first few levels).

Haha, low score contest always comes with the 'furthest in the game takes precedence' rule Adam.

I actually think lowest score/furthest might work best here, IMO. It's still the extra lives one needs to worry about.

Okay, after playing the game for a little bit, I'm gonna change the Tier 2 & 3 rules for how many lives you can use. For both tiers, you can only use 3 lives total. After you die for the third time, you must stop playing and take a picture of your score. Is everyone okay with this? I will update the rules tomorrow once I have access to a phone again. It's hard to do it on my phone

My NES collection count: 757 games (16 to go for a full set)

Latest Purchase(s): Snow Brothers

I have absolutely NO problem with that. But with the extra lives, we will be relying heavily on the honor system. Shouldn't be a problem though. I believe I can get through the game on 3 lives. On that note, I am going to bed.

When I got home, I was glad to see I advanced, but wow, this round's rules look pretty convoluted to say the least. Since I've always been a fan of NGII but not overly great at it anyway, all I'm going to do this week is what I usually do: push myself to my limits and try to do better than I ever did before. I'm just going to focus on getting as far as I can in this game and not so much on points. Whatever happens will happen, even if I get eliminated, but I'm just going to sit back and try to enjoy the game this week

I could do this on my copy of NG Trilogy on my SNES but it seems that I'll have to emulate again...

I say just for the sake of it not becoming a problem, make all tiers 1 life only. Plus the tier 2 and 3 guys showed this past contest that they can hang with the tier 1ers,so I say the rules should be uniform.

I know, but without having it, playing it won't be easy...

I think that's fair. Here's the official Twin Galaxies rules on it:

TGTS Settings [3 Lives to Start, 5 Lives Maximum]

Special Rules: Your scoring attempts ends when either you die for a 5th time, or you manage to land the final blow on the Final Boss of 7-5, thus beating the game. NO CODES ALLOWED!

So it's basically the same, just 3 lives instead of 5, which I'm perfectly cool with.

Thanks for looking into this Kev!

I just find point racking to be tedious in general even if the game has a timer. Standing in one place and killing enemies that reappear nonstop isn't much fun IMO, especially in a game as cheap as this where one bad jump can ruin your entire run. As long as I can make it to the last stage, I should be able to put up a decent score by playing normally, although I don't know if it would be enough to qualify for the next round.

True, but I still think this game would be highly obnoxious to make it a low score competition. At least with it being a high score, people don't have to worry about not having to avoid enemies in an already challenging game.

Just my $0.02.

If I got my way, we would be playing Baseball. I've been practicing on this game for the past two weeks since I figured if it didn't win the voting for the first round, it would probably win in the second. After an entire morning of playing, it's already getting on my nerves.

You might want to make an exception for Shane though and let him have the extra lives. I hear he's pretty bad at NGII.....

Also I'd love to try this as a low score as well as some others have mentioned.

So what did we decide on? Tiers 2 and 3 dying three times and then taking the picture of their score? If that's the case, I should have a score up sometime today.

If this game was any more frustrating it would make Ghandi want to kick a puppy in the balls. I've got a score to post later, but I died on the boss from NG1 when I accidentally let the clock run out because I thought it reset before the boss fight.
