It's probably the same spot you are at....the first appearance of those blue soldier guys with the swords who appear on each side of you.

My average on that spot is around 50k, but I think my best now is closer to 65k.

75k is expert timing on that one.

Nah,just some practice. I know several others on here will be able to hit 75k per life on stage 1.

EDIT:  Stage 8, Score - 407,250

Got careless and bored and lost all my lives on Stage 8 this time.

Game Cleared, Final Score - 354,500 Such a janky game, but also kind of fun. So many opportunities to milk the score in this one, definitely giving it another go tonight. I restrained myself in stages 6 & 7 because I wanted the extra lives I accumulated to fall back on, just in case I messed up in the last few stages (and I did, Stage 8 and the flying bit). Just in case the final boss screens don't end up counting, here's my tally when I reset the system, 349,450. So dumb how it doesn't save your score unless you lose a life.

Well here is what I came up with this week!  I could do even better but I don't wanna sit down and grind again, so this will have to do!  I just now realized I forgot to put my "name tag" back up for this picture but you can still see it laying down on the lower-left.

If this score is disqualified because I didn't take the picture on the high score screen, I can upload another picture with a lower score.  Please let me know!

This run featured 85K on my first life in Stage 1!  I wasn't able to get particularly close to that in any other attempts.

EDIT:  Actually, just to be safe, here's a picture on the high score screen with a different score (340,850).

The judges can decide which is appropriate.  (Please pick the higher score!  =P)

85k on level 1? Did you suicide on that run? Even if you did,I'm curious as to how you got 85k there. Do you bother getting the ladder and triple shot or do you just head to that spot asap? I've been averaging about 10k per roughly 30 seconds of grinding I believe.

EDIT: Nevermind. Figured it out. Carry on.

Yeah it was suicide. I dunno it there's a real trick to it it not. It was kind of a fluke that I managed to get so many spawns so quickly.

It's definitely no trick. I see how you did it. That's why I enjoy playing against all you guys and gals, you all make me a much better gamer and I really appreciate it.

Updated my score. I don't know if it's a winning one or not,(probably not) but I'm happy with it nonetheless.

i attached 2 photos 1 before i died and one at the game over screen depending on which one is counted

this is terrible but i assume on level 8 you need to have wings?  i dont like to check gamefaqs or the internet so for the life of me i just kept falling in the pit at the start of the level so i kind of just decided to hang on level 7 haha

208,160 (the final death happened pretty quickly on the water stage, so this isn't really docking me any points)

I am getting a bit too frustrated with the suicide mechanic.

Everytime I get a really efficient grind going in the earlier levels, I'll inadvertently kill myself while platforming in a later level while jumping and shooting simultaneously.

I think I have a tendency to hold A since so many platformers out there dictate your jump duration based on holding the button rather than tapping the button.

I feel like this would have been a lot more fun if this one actually worked on the PowerPak, since using a computer keyboard I think is also contributing to the tendancy of suicide inputs.

Yes you need wings, but you'll be given some on the starting platform in stage 8 by turning left, jumping, then shooting the area behind you. The level actually provides you with enough wings to complete the level as long as you don't meander.

Spent more time cleaning someones last name off this cart then actually playing it this week. If anyone here has the last name Garner and your mom wrote your last name on a copy of Karnov...tell her I said thanks for being a pain in my balls!

Definitley, and alot of times I do. You know, I kinda actually feel a tiny bit quilty when I'm removing someones name from a cart.... but this one came out looking mint when I was done. So sorry Garner if your out there, but part of your soul is mine now!

I almost failed to achieve a score cause I wasn't able to play karnov on the powerpak first (harder to grind effectively on a DS), and finally found out that I could fix the issue with thefox's mapper (thanks buddy!). I only understood on my last two lives how to maximize the grind on the swordmen, which helped me to boost my score by 20k for sure.

So I didn't realize until today I was lacking this game on my power pak. I was looking over today's purchase from the flea market and checked the 2 nes consoles I bought for games. What are the odds that Karnov was in one of the consoles. Must be karma repaying me for the oil thing last week

It's just a participation point, but I apologize for the blurry screen. I had difficulties getting a picture off before the screen changed and this was the best setting I had. I blame my "old man" reflexes

I was really expecting to get bumped to a participation point after I gave up early.

It is a shame we didn't get to see what mattyjmania was capable of in terms of point exploitation since he beat it so early in the week.

Guillavoie -- wish it had occurred to me to get thefox's mappers. Can you PM a link to me so i can get the latest set so I don't run into this again?
(same thing happened to me last week with Jackal, since I hadn't updated my RetroZone mappers in FOREVER)

I am not sure if these mappers are the best for general compatibility, but they fix the glitches issue with Karnov and Cybernoid. The main utility of them is the option to add a save state while playing, but I also like that you can disable the feature (there's a menu when you start the game). Then, you can use it for practicing or other purpose and disable it when you perform your score to avoid any bad luck loading a state while playing.
