Can anyone give me advice on selling a very high value item?  I have a gray NWC cart I want to sell here at NA or elsewhere, One of the reason's I haven't sold it sooner than this is the fear of fraud/loss in the transportation/receiving of the item.  I only have one of these, cant screw it up! lol

Regardless of whom I ship it to, an auction house to be sold by them, ebay bidder, NA forum member, or even out to be graded, thats a pretty big leap of faith to stuff an item like that in a package and just hope everything goes ok!  I know all about insurance and tracking and signature confirmation, but what if the other end says " sure, we got a package, but inside was a Super Mario/Duck Hunt cartridge!"  Am I out of luck?   Whats the best way to transfer funds? Is there a way somebody could "pull back" their funds after receiving the item?  I've started the process to sell this item time and time again only to feel overwhelmed and give up. I can't think of all the questions my overly anxious mind has come up with over the year's, but you probably know what i'm getting at.

Am I over thinking this?  The thought that I can screw this up has kept me from actually sellling it for years. Which has happened to work out in my favor value wise, but at some point, it ain't worth nothing sitting in a security deposit box.

Any help appreciated.

If you have lots of experience at this and are willing to "hand hold" me through the process, PM me and I will be willing to pay an "advisor fee".

Another NWC cart. Wow.

Why don't you just do a cash deal, pick up only?

I haven't really sold anything too valuable, but I would say like tbone3969 says, cash deal pick up only. I would say anyone who wants a cart will take a day and come get it. You will be at the bank I presume because u said safe deposit box, so you will have witnesses and will be safe doing the deal. Also, several people on here prolly looking for cart so you might have it sold very soon.

Just my thoughts, hope it goes well for you, wish i could make an offer, but in no position kuz I seem to live only 1 state away from you.

Good luck

Yea, Cash/pickup is really the best option for everyone. Anyone wanting to purchase one of these clearly has the money to fly out to pick it up. Most the transactions for these ive seen have gone this route. Not only for security of the cart, but also meeting the person and understanding the history of where it came from and how it came to be in your hands.

Cash deal and meet at a local police station. Have a couple people with you. I mean think of it as selling a car. People buy cars all the time in cash deals. There are plenty of serious buyers that will not
fuck around.

here's pics of it. I'm in Cleveland. Good idea to do it inside the credit union. Starblazer watermark on pics was my ebay/digitpress name. pacifica529 is my current ebay name. Based on those pics anyone want to price it for me?  I will say it looks slightly better in pics than IRL. I was swearing while taking each shot and not getting all the detail. When I do list it i will take new pics and maybe even video of it working.

If it's in good shape it's gonna sell in the $15k-$20k+ range. If I flip that around and act as the buyer I don't want to carry that much cash on me ever. Meet inside that persons bank and have them go to the counter and get a bank check. Your both safe and you have a reason to be in the bank since the bank check is needed. Although you have no shortage of buyers, so if it’s cash bring a cash bill tester and I second the police station or some urban areas have monitored online transaction safe spots if your desperate.

Or it's really easy to PM 98ViperGTS, he has been looking for one. http://nintendoage.com/forum/mess...

Overall great shape. Appears to be no label lifting. Glue bleed is present and common to NWC carts. I would take no less than $20K and you could expect to get as much as $25Kish. IMO

Yeah, jeez, really good shape. Sky's the limit on that one. The more people who know you are selling the better which is tough given you want to do a local transaction. Good luck with sale and do make sure to give Viper a chance! Let us know how much you get if you don't mind, Jeff needs this data for profit keeping NA servers online

Was 0181 accounted for?

I'm still open to all avenues of selling.  I'm just trying to get all the info i can, so i can finally sell it and do it right.   I'm pretty sure my cart was listed as confirmed but without pics in that list someone is compliling.  I have owned this since march 2002.

IMHO, this place has a few people with deep pockets and they are motivated to get this cart and the condition is amazing. You can show it around one the web and I'd do a safe cash deal because you'll definitely get a few fair offers.

I'm sure you could do something like have it graded/certified by WATA and then have them orchestrate a listing with heritage but by the time that's done and the costs involved, it will be less of a hassle and probably just as profitable to shop around and sell this yourself.

The term "holy grail" gets thrown around a lot in collecting and is definitely abused. That said, for actual games, this is THE holy grail. There aren't many games out there that top the grey NWC. Save on auction and commission fees and just sell it directly to a buyer at a bank, with a cashiers check or something.

Also, what’s the story on this?  Where did it come from?  Are you the original owner or know the person that was?

Yay

Another one undeniably confirmed. This one was already marked as confirmed, but I didn't have a photo of it.

Any chance I can have an unwatermarked photo for the archive? I can promise not to share that image and mark it as private. I've got a few in my archive like that already.

Also, regarding condition: This one is about par the course as far as NWCs go.
  • Average, possibly moderate amount of glue "bleed" / mottling
  • Average amount of yellowing to label borders
  • Average, possibly moderate amount of yellowing throughout the label
  • Average condition of cartridge case
  • Great condition of overall label (no major scuffs or scratches visible without light source)

Too bad Buyatari didn't see this one; could have been about a 20 minute drive instead of a flight!

And with something of this magnitude, I'm thinking in person handoff. As far as the money transfer goes, I'll defer to some of the peeps that have done (actual) five figure transactions in the past for their advice.

Only time I have done that is when I bought my house, certifed check from the bank.

Do you care to share the story of where this came from/how you obtained it? Either way, best of luck with the sale.

Not stuff like that, there's enough people here that have done person to person five (and six) figure sales that can give their advice on how they did it.

There's also a good chance they'll just message the OP privately with said advice.

Thanks for all the replies. I've gotten some decent offers on it already. I'm naive or a bit slow, I didn't expect offers to start pouring in. was just looking to get the ball rolling.

I've been away from the collecting community for a long time. Just poke my head in every now and then to see where price might be at with the NWC cart. I was in contact with someone from Heritage Auctions recently who sent me a link to a recently ended auction they hosted for a gray cart that sold for $26,000 with fee's. That cart wasn't in as good of shape as mine. Then i saw that one had sold here, also very recently, for $42,000. That cart was in better shape than mine. I also know thats high end for this item.

I don't think I'm out of line to shoot for somewhere between those two. Doesn't mean I'll get it, but I can try, just so you know what I'm looking for price wise. I'll be honest, anything below the Heritage auction isn't going to work. I've owned this for 17 years and it only seems to be going up in value. I'm not hard up for the money. I could use it of course. It has also struck me as sad the past years thats it's just been sitting in a vault.

The cart has been in a safety deposit box for the last 7 years. It's a credit union with those odd hours, like 10- 4 pm that aren't convenient for anyone but the retired. I'll try to run down there and take more pics of it. I have the tool to open the cart. I might even take it home to video it working if I can work out the timing. Then properly list it here in the sellers forum.

I'm going to take this slow so I make sure I do it right. Any advice is still very welcome. Of course anyone who wants to blow me away with an offer please do so.

Mike

P.S.  I start work at 3pm est and get home around 1 am. today and i also work Saturday.  If I don't reply quicly please know thats why, also I work in a place where I can't easily communicate.
