At first I was wondering how you ended up with less hearts than me but forgot that you can skip the one right at the beginning in the sanctuary chest. I'm back in camp now and can give it another proper shot. I guess you clinched first place with your submission.

Yup, skip the first heart at Sanctuary.

I figured if I'm gonna play through ALttP, I may as well go all-out and shoot for the stars with a guaranteed top spot. Absolutely love the game. I may play through again to do it without upgrading to the Mirror Shield; kinda sad I upgraded it, as I thought it was required to beat the game.

I grabbed it without thinking. I've done the run before with out grabbing it. I didn't even use it in it's intended spot. It's pretty easy to just run and side step the lazer to grab the key.

Yeah it doesn't honestly even really make it all that much easier; just a few specific enemies are more avoidable.

Putting everything together really made the run quite fun though, having no bottles to refill magic and so having to conserve it, no fairies to save my ass, lots of damage taken from the green tunic, and very little done with the Master Sword (I ended up using the Hammer a lot!). It gives you some perspective on just how easy the game COULD be - any one upgrade from the list would make the game almost laughably easy. As it was though, I found myself rather often cursing at bosses as I mirrored out of the boss room to refill mana or hearts.

As I said earlier, I love the rules that were set forth for this, it really enhanced my run of the game.

Wow 37 just from saving. I wonder how many of my deaths were just saving.

Gave Zelda a go last night for a speed run. Been quite awhile. I died in the ice palace trying to pull off the bomb jump. Turn d it off after that. Maybe give it another go eventually.

EDIT: Also, apparently saves (which I did regularly to teleport around the map) count on the start screen? I legit did not die at all.

Next time (if there is one) I'd entertain the thought of doing a low death and low save set of rules.  Seems kind of sadistic though.

It'd be interesting for certain for those who have the time and skill to sit and play it all in one go. For me, I played through basically a dungeon a day over a week or so.

The SMW underground theme really puts me to sleep. I wish they had made a death metal inspired tune instead.

Not sadistic at all. That's exactly what I did. 1 run straight through no deaths or save warping

I'm working on my perfect LTTP run. It's been slow going. Many resets. I got stuck on the Ice Palace and Misery Mire bossed for forever. I literally had both dungeons beat except the bosses, would try one until I was sick of it, and then I'd go to the other. Rinse and repeat. I could speed run the stupid Ice Palace with my eyes closed at this point.

At Turtle Rock. I'm hoping to finish the game this week.

I finally started Link to the Past. Made it to the first dungeon in Dark World today. Plan to at least beat it by the end of the month.

LttP is my favorite Zelda game and I beat it numerous times when I was a kid. Since I started emulating in my teens and collecting again... I think I've only beaten it like 2 or 3 times, though. I remember a lot of stuff... but there are also a lot of things where I stop and wonder what the hell I'm doing.

Thanks. I could have got further too but I got greedy hitting a shell into the air repeatedely for points and it killed me. Wasn't worth it. I was able to get much further playing cautiously then trying to rack up points.

I'm thinking about doing a consolation bracket in addition to the post-season in June/July. It would be the #5-8 ranked players, and just for fun. Assuming we even have that many players that are interested by then...

I may have to give up my perfect run on LTTP. Can't get past the Turtle Rock boss. I spent an hour and a half or two hours today just working on that. I can't seem to beat him. I run out of magic before I can kill the second head, and if that happens, you have to start over. Might try later or I might give in and get a bottle and green potion. Who knows?

Also going to try SMW. We will see how that goes.
