maybe since we know people can beat this game, you have to at least beat the game for your score to count.

or you could just make a rule of no leaching and just go off of the honor system.

no its not!
Your not goin to tell me you didnt play from the begging to the end of the game you just stood there shooting everyone for hours staight!
You didnt go from level to level like most people!
THATS WHY IM NOT COUNTING YOUR SCORE
i dont care if you never particpate in another one of my contest. i know you donated last weeks prize, its just not unfair to the less hard core gamers that cant get that high because all you did was stand there and press the turbo button.

Thanks!  I used to play this game all the time when I was a kid, and pretty much mastered it a few years ago when one of my friends said it was impossible to beat the game without dying (which I obviously had to do to prove him wrong).
There are some people out there that are REALLY good at this game!  I'm pretty sure at least a few people have beat the game using only the pea shooter and without dying.  Now that is amazing skill!

You should do highest score at completion of the game (with no code, obviously). The problem is that you picked a game that is way way too easy. Myself and I'm sure a lot of others can play this game endlessly and pick up men faster than we can lose them. And by the time you get to the 6 mil max, you invariably have a lot more men in reserve than the measly 3 you started with Just saying...

-------------------------

My mantra, as worded by SamSpade on 06/12/12:
I don't resell to fund my collection, I don't treat this hobby like a second job, I don't care if my collection is worth ten bucks or ten thousand because I never plan on selling it. Seriously, what does the value have to do with anything if you never plan on selling? Speculation doesn't mean jack shit to me at this point, I just want to play my nes games...

I don't think it should matter if you camp on level 1 or beat the game 10 times in a row. I think it's a legit tactic, although tedious. It wasn't set as against the rules at the beginning of the contest nor is it a deal breaker on Twin Galaxies. I suggest saving the 'no camping' rule for the next contest if it applies and letting it slide this time since it wasn't clearly established. Besides, if James hadn't of said anything no one would've been the wiser anyway.

Thanks
if you play the game for 3 hours and beat it 4 times its the same as camping on the first level for 3 hours

Twin galaxies says 'limited leeching at referees discretion"
In actuality its less productive to just sit and camp, so if someone goes that route they are just doing themselves a disservice.
As long as they aren't just taping down their turbo button I'd say let em do it, they will run out of steam long before they reach a high score.
Its not worth getting so worked up over this 800k, that score will be decimated, believe me.

Usually, "camping" or point spamming is frowned upon.

But the guys are right, in this game it's going to get destroyed by somebody that knows what they're doing.

Well it is a dirty tactic.. But what can you say. You cant just start adding rules once the contest is already underway. Thats even dirtier. The score should stand. Its not James fault. I dont like James' method, but it should hold legal, and maybe next time the contests will be more thought out before they begin. He did put hours of work into the score. It shouldnt be thrown away, just because he found a shorter route to the prize. DOnt say he cheated, because that he did not do.

Why is this even being debated? Do you guys remember the NWC competition? The way it was won originally was by spamming the 8000 point goomba jump at the beginning of 1-2 in SMB3, and the NWC NA competition was won by spamming the 4 turtle jump in 1-1. High scores usually involve spamming, no secret about this.

And it's not even going to matter because 3 hours of gameplay on world 1 is not going to be NEARLY as high of a score as someone who plays this game to the end and loops back over again for 3 hours. A good gamer is going to shatter that 800k score, it's so ridiculous this is even being argued.

Jonas - point spamming in a timed competition, where each milestone MUST be reached is VERY different from point spamming ad infinitum with no time limit.
