I am pretty sure I read over at romhacking.net that posting only the .ips alone would be legal

Should be great!

IPS still contains both copyrighted code and graphics. So no, it is not legal.

You know what a 48kb IPS patch is called?
That's right, a ROM.

You can apply this patch to a zero-filled file and get a working rom.

I don't know much about this stuff, but I thought the official DK had been modified really, so that I could make a .ips for the differences (ofc it contains copyrighted stuff..but you at least need the official .rom... and everyone owns a copynes, right? ). Well, I still think so, since I can't apply this to a zero-filled file and get a working rom Dwedit. Not saying your wrong, but I couldn't get it to work.

You just have to fix the first 4 bytes of the NES header after applying to the zero-filled file.

Or you could apply the ips to another game of the same size and get DK? If you are looking for an actually legal way to post it, there isn't one. Fortunately people here don't care!

It would also be basic for anyone to make repro carts, using donors or new parts.

Yeah, let's pretend it's just slightly in the "gray area", no need to get on the high horse.. It's to cool..
..also, Nintendo didn't include this in americas anniversary Wii's...and neither on VC.. so.. justice is served

It's CNROM. Get the retropak from retrousb.com for four bucks and a new cartridge case from same site. The chips you need are mentioned on the repropak page. You will of course also need a eeprom burner. I might do this as my first repro project just for the heck of it, even though I have a powerpak ^^. I think some dude posted a detailed guide some days ago how to make a repro also.

Theres no high horse, and no gray area. As I said people here don't care so nobody is saying to remove it. Just good to know the actual legalities instead of believing people who don't know, and then being screwed later.

There's also good repro making guides in an old ezine. Don't forget the ciclone when ordering boards from that awesome retrousb.com site

When you decide to release this at retrousb as a repro Id buy one.  Gotta have those new parts and nice fancy labels for a proper DK :-)

I will go ahead and second ulasamosa on that bunnyboy.  My DK version on the VC is really really sad.

Now we need someone to tweak this so there's better graphics.. like the post made in the other thread as a Mock-up. I'm sure we can pull it off by maximizing remaining space.

Either that or someone needs to now translate D2K into a Nes Homebrew. ^^

Do this? What are you talking about? This isn't someone's cool hack, this is a pirated ROM release of a game made by Nintendo.  Don't pretend that it's anything else.

Easy there. Cool hack or no, I think we're all just happy that we can now play this on PowerPaks and emulators, and I do think it's cool that he configured the file so that we could use it in the form of an ips patch on our current DK roms. Now go rain on someone else's parade, or I'll grab a mallet and smash your barrels. (DK joke reference, of course.)
