Name that title help me find this NES game

Hopefully im in the right board. There was this game i enjoyed when i was a kid which i would like to find badly!!

You could go in shops buy upgrades and i think you can walk on clouds or there was a level in the clouds. I know that seems very cryptic but its all i got to go on  

Please help me find this game it was for the NES.

Kid Icarus sounds like a good choice. If not, maybe Clash at Demonhead?

It could really be a lot of things! do you remember anything else; what kind of items did you buy? was your charictor a person or an animal? was a side scroller? Top down?

There's no shop in it, but maybe Adventure Island 2 or 3?

This sounds a lot like when I had problems finding a game, but it turned out to be Wizards & Warriors. How about Beetlejuice?

Sounds like Wonderboy 2 for the Master System. I know you said NES, but if you can't remember the game, maybe you can't remember the correct system either.

thats not it. pretty sure it was a person and the cloud level you walked on and there was a shop to get upgrades. no airplanes.
