The Secret Game Shop in Douglasville, GA closed down last week. I showed up for the first time in a year and they were boxing everything up and moving out. This is a theme for the shops I visit, unfortunately.

They said that the lease was up and he just decided not to renew. Bummer.

If this is the theme, then please stop visiting shops!

Always sad to see a store close down...

It's a tough time for stores that just do video games and like one other thing. You gotta be doing a lot with card games, toys, plush, comics, tabletop gaming, movies, music or various other things or it's very tough to pay the bills. There's no money in mainstream modern games since they are only hot for a couple weeks or months at most. This is in contrast to 2015 or early 2016 even when things were still pretty good in the video game space.

Wow, it's a bummer reading about all these stores closing. It makes me value the stores that I have around me in Phoenix. There aren't many, but the ones that are around are solid.

Re: Hawaii. Maui Comic and Collectables in Kahului sells retro games.

You should also add "World 8" to the California section. Awesome shop based in L.A.

Great resource btw. Thanks for putting this together and pruning the leaves from time to time.

Arcade Legacy in Cincinnati Ohio just opened up another location across the river ~2 weeks ago. It's in Newport, KY

edit: Looks like the Kentucky store list is out of date. Game Castle in Erlanger is closed, but a much better store opened up down the road: Nostalgic Bazar in Florence, KY (http://nostalgicbazaar.com/...). There's also 2 retro game sellers in the Richwood Flea Market (Richwood KY), but I can't name either by name...

Toyriffic in Maplewood, MN closed as of December 30, 2017.

8 Bit Classic Collection in Duluth, MN says closed too on Google but not on yelp. It's been YEARS since i've been up to Duluth, MN so I know nothing about that place. Looking on Google Maps, it looks like it was last updated in July 2017 and I don't see that 8 bit Classic Collection place anywhere unless i'm missing it.

Can't find any mention of a Games N Go in Minneapolis or St Paul, only Roseville.

Says on their site it was purchased by 2 employees in June 2017 so I'm assuming that second Facebook page that hasn't had a post since 2016 was from the old owners.

Just wanted to pop in and say that I had great experiences recently at Steel Collectibles in Kennesaw, GA and Almost Anything in Opelika, AL! I see that they are both already on the list, so... awesome list.

I barely scratched the surface at these places and still found a lot of goodies. I will not pass up the opportunity to stop by again when I'm in these areas and I believe any self-respecting NintendoAger would regret not paying a visit of their own if they have the opportunity. Both were well stocked with retro games, including uncommons, and both were easy to deal with. With names like Almost Anything and Steel Collectibles, they may not sound like they are very focused on games, retro or otherwise, but you will see that they are both at the top of that game!

I hate to lump them together like this since they both deserve independent recognition but my experience was surprisingly similar. As many shops as I've checked out, I can't recall a better experience. Thanks, guys!

Just wanted to chime in and say that Jay St. Video Games in Destiny USA Mall (aka Carousel Center) in Syracuse is actually still open. The store got cut in half and the front half became a coffee shop. The other half behind it is still a Jay St. store. My bad.

I have to chime in again and retract my previous post. I actually went to Destiny USA on Sunday to go see a movie and though I'd stop into Jay St. Videogames real quick. Well, it was closed and nothing was behind the bars. I just checked online to make sure they didn'
t move to another space. Turns out they really are closed down now.

The list should be updated to note that Games Underground in Natick has closed down. I spoke with the owner yesterday and he said he's currently looking for a new location to re-open the store.

My son... gives me Helpful Nintendo Hints that are far too complex for the adult mind to comprehend. Here's a verbatim example: "OK, there's Ganon and miniature Ganon and there's these things like jelly beans and the miniature Ganon is more powerfuller, because when you touch him the flying eagles come down and the octopus shoots red rocks and the swamp takes longer." And the hell of it is, I know he's right. - Dave Barry
