Edit: 6/20/14

I've played (and still own) the Genesis version of this, so I'm kind of familiar with it, even if I haven't played this version. I used to suck hard at it, but I'm better than I remember, so this will be getting a lot of plays this week from me.

EDIT: Beat Roper but sucked at "Asteroids".

EDITx2: Beat Roper again, and getting a little better at this Asteroids wannabe.

First time playing this one. Battletoads is one of my time all time favorites, so I was really looking forward to giving this game a try. After playing the first 2 levels I thought maybe the difficulty was gonna be scaled down compared to the original, but level 3 and 4 kicked it back up a little bit for sure (I'm up to level 5 with continues so far). Does anybody who's played both games have an opinion on how the difficulty ranks compared to the original?

This seems easier than Battletoads in my opinion. Of course I've only made it to stage 3 so I can't say that definitively. I can say that stage 3 is too long and annoying. And there are lots of cheap ways to die.

I'd have to go with the original Battletoads as the harder game.  If for no other reason, it has 12 levels against just 7 on BTDD.  Plus Battletoads has a lot more variety in the gameplay (pit dropping, ice platforming, snake climbing, pseudo-3D towers, and lots of racing).  Sure, BTDD has a bike scene and an Asteroids-style shooter stage, but otherwise it's mostly just a beat-em-up.

Game Clear! (474,600)

Really good run this time, I'm super happy with this one!

EDIT:  Old score was 534,750

Finally beat it with a few extra lives to boot!  I traded points for lives in a particular spot so I could get this score lower, but I think this is pretty good.

Also, I updated my score. I managed to get past Roper and that hell spawn of a level. On another note, I suck at Asteroids (or "Asteroids", I should say), as I found out .

Hmmm, really good question. I thought we couldn't use them on my side all this time, I wish Bimmy could clear this up.

I missed that part in arnopoly's post before.  I doubt anyone else used any continues, but I may be wrong.  I always assumed it's no continues in these contests unless specified, and I don't even recall that happening.

I don't think we've ever played a week where continuing was allowed.

I must be missing something about how you guys are getting such low scores by that point in the game.

Throwing enemies gives you no points, although it's tedious and boring and the enemies really try to keep you from doing it.

Oh, screw that.  The game is a big enough pain as it is, and you get lives from points.

Yeah, that's the trade off.  Avoiding all the point orbs help your score big time, especially in the speeder area.  However, you get extras in the area for destroying all of them.  I also relied on enemy placement and using a weapon at the right time to keep my score down as well.  At the same time, I don't do the throws either, its a big pain in the butt.

Another thing I noticed, at least in the first level, I did one run with one of the Lees (Billy) the same way I've done it with the toads and I ended up with almost 10K more at the end of it than I usually did.  I'm unsure if the Lees are more susceptible to points than the toads, but I've only stuck with the toads otherwise.  Maybe someone else can confirm this.

Different ways to kill enemies that will give you different points. But in the case of the speeder level, I went for all of the point orbs/eggs. I figured I wouldn't beat the game so my score wouldn't matter. I just wanted to get as far as possible. Pretty fun game!

Yeah, I'm not going to care about getting a low score as long as I haven't beated the game.

You're not alone, I totally forgot about that. This should help me in the hardest part of this funky level.
