So my AVS was shipped 9/11. I would just do the plastics mod? Is there a way to confirm we dont need the pin? Thank you

All 2nd batch AVS consoles have the new pin connector.

If you got your AVS this year, within the last month, its a 2nd batch console.

But what if I replaced the outer case of my AVS? I don't know what batch it was made in!

Woohoo! Can't wait to get this installed and give it a whirl! Any updates on the 3D printed part meant to hold down the USB port for those of us with still-intact launch models? I'm still reluctant to bring the system out while my toddler is awake and wandering, lest the power port get jacked up and spoiling our fun for however long it takes to get it fixed.

Need Stadium Events + Panesian titles, 6-in-1's, Menace Beach, Moon Ranger & Secret Scout to complete my licensed/unlicensed sets.

If you've got any of the above for sale, hit me up!

Just ordered mine!

Anyone have some tips on performing the plastic mod? I'm not that handy and I don't have a lot of tools. I think I'm gonna try to file it down but not sure if that's the best way.

Looks like an X-acto knife will do it.

I'll probably try my Dremel at a low speed, if the modification is even necessary in my case.

Any chance I can just send my original AVS back to retroUSB for one with the new connector and the additional brace for the power port already installed?

EDIT: Eh, I'm not terribly thrilled about modding my system.

I ended up using pliers and twisting off chunks at a time. Came off pretty cleanly and only took a couple minutes.

I can't find out why the plastic shaving portion of this mod needs to be done. Is it to make green-stripe games work more reliably with the new cartridge connector?

Just ordered mine. Not thrilled about having to mod the plastic, but it could be worse. I actually have quite few green strip games, so it will be nice to finally have this system fully working.

Any chance I can get one for free since I bought an apparently incomplete system?

You may not need to. Pop in the connector and see if the problem games work first.

It costs a penny and three bucks shipping. IMO it's reasonable.

Confused why people continue to make excuses for this thing? It was promised to work with every game out of the box period. It didn't. A fix was found and now people have to do a manual MOD and pay for an additional part to meet that promise? The system was not cheap to start with and now an additional nickel and dime correction cost? Just seems odd to me. Especially when people are a little upset about the situation and others immediately attack them for feeling that way.

No one's attacking anyone.

Brian's a member here and has been transparent about the issues. Sorry he isn't Nintendo with unlimited resources. He's a dude doing this out of his house.

I don't own an AVS, but I was curious about the plastic shaving and read that some people still had issues with their 2nd revision units and the green stripe.  I do have an Analogue Nt Mini on preorder and I do not recall that anyone has tested a green stripe cartridge in it.  I have an Air Fortress waiting for it with a green stripe cartridge connector, we'll see how it works.

RetroUSB said that the connector could work on its own. The shaving of plastic was discovered more recently and worked for the early second shipment units. It's to basically cover all the bases.

I just want to say that I totally agree with everything you are saying.  It's frustrating.

^ ditto... the "it's only $3" argument can be made both ways. I'm salty about it. While I haven't had any issues, I feel obligated to pick one up "just in case"...

Nice!!! I'll order mine tonight. I've not had any games not work at all, just a few of them are picky. This should do the trick!

Thanks, Brian
