If the pins are extremely tight, the seller either messed up refurbing the old connector, or put in a really crappy replacement connector. The new batch of connectors on ebay are complete crap... one of my buddies own a shop and buys connectors all the time. He has stopped buying them, due to them not working properly and overall poor build quality. The last one I bought was literally useless...
If you want to return it, I would contact the seller and tell him/her that you are having problems. Try to treat it as an innocent mistake and see what happens. If you can't get anywhere with him/her, file a claim with ebay and see if you can get your money back.
