Setting up my new gameroom and want to dig out the ps2 and set up.  It was having issues reading cd roms several yrs ago so figure the laser needs to be replaced.  It is a fat launch day unit.  Anyone do this before or want to for $?

Blue/ purple color disc surface? I have a couple of these that I had to tape to get running. 2 inch or so parallel strips of masking or painters tape, one on each side of the hole. If one strip thickness doesn't work, stack another on top.

yeah i bought a replacement lens for my slim ps2, so far so good
make sure you buy the correct one, there are at least 2 models for slim units, maybe for fat units there are multiple too
all my slim units at one point can't read gold discs anymore so i need to replace the lens...

not sure if the lens degrades faster with a modchip install, it may also depend on which modchip and how it was done

There are something like 6 or 7.  I used to know because I had most of them at one point or another.  Most people think that all slims have external A/C adapters, but there is even a slim PS2 model with internal A/C adapter that uses the same power cord as the fat PS2.

Just get a new PS2. They are cheap enough.
