Is anyone collecting these refurbished variants of Wii/WiiU games?

I noticed this today that nintendo's online store sells refurbished versions of certain titles with a red band on the coverart to indicate the game is refurbished.

I can see these being a variant to collect someday in the future and probably not too many of them being made.

Is the red band a part of the cover or is it just a sticker they put on it?

@N64 Gamer: The red band is part of the cover art. The Pikmin changes go further, changing "New Play Control!" on the front cover to "Wii Play Control!"

I picked up the NSMBU+NSLU combo game and Pikmin game during a similar thread on this topic a few months ago. Not specifically to collect them but because they're the far cheapest way to get a physical copy of the game ATM.

As to how collectible they'll be in the future, that is tough to say. For all we know Nintendo could keep selling refurbished copies for years and the lack of manual and/or ugly red stripe could turn off future collectors.

My son... gives me Helpful Nintendo Hints that are far too complex for the adult mind to comprehend. Here's a verbatim example: "OK, there's Ganon and miniature Ganon and there's these things like jelly beans and the miniature Ganon is more powerfuller, because when you touch him the flying eagles come down and the octopus shoots red rocks and the swamp takes longer." And the hell of it is, I know he's right. - Dave Barry

Hey I remember this! http://beta.nintendoage.com/forum...

I got a refirbed SMBWii a while back. To reiterate, instead of a red case, it's white, and the "Wii" logo isn't reflective. Also, the words "refurbished product" is printed on the paper, it's not a sticker.

I haven't opened mine and kept it sealed (Still looks new even though it's refurbished), but seeing this probably makes me want to get another just to see what's inside. That, and it seems to be cheaper now than it used to.

When I get home and I'll see if I can take some pics of it.

I am only about 20 games from a Wii U set but won't be collecting these or the variants such as "Family Game of the Year" or whatever it is for Mario 3D World. As long as I have a physical CIB copy of each game I'm good.

Those are actually some pretty good prices for those games.

Okay, here's mine!

It's slabbed, but it's not a permaslab. Just something that'll help protect it. Actually, it did the job! Notice the crack on the bottom. It fell from my shelf and luckily that was the only thing that was damaged. 0_o

I didn't know they had Wii U games as well! That's a formidable price for the NSMBU/Luigi pack, even taking shipping into consideration. Several good deals in the Wii section too, with Punch-Out and Pikmin being the clear winners.

I have a copy of Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Mini-Land Mayhem with the "refurbished product" packaging. Does anyone know of any other DS titles which got this treatment?

Might consider NSMBU/Luigi sometime. Maybe...
Not that I need the bonus content, but it'd save space.

Considering the only way to obtain these is directly from Nintendo I can see this becoming something variant collectors would jump all over.
