Those heads are a warp if I remember correctly as I used to hit it, can't remember what I did to do it, but you jump up and bypass whatever stage you would next go to for the one after.

so while playing tonight, i beat the first level boss and before proceeding to the first wave of enemies for the next round, i got hit by flying statue heads. they are like heads that shoot the bubbles at you in round 3, but were upright and were only a blue outline. they came fast and i got smashed before i knew what happened. anyone know what this is or how to trigger it?
