I'm just getting into collecting for Famicom. Is this Gun-Nac legit? Are there other ways to tell if a game is real or fake other than the label and shell? I've compared it to other listings and it appears to be the same. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something.

Your copy seems fine to me.

You can try looking at the pins without taking the game apart.  A lot of times repro carts have rounded tips to the pins.  I'm sure that's not 100% indicative of anything, but if the pins aren't rounded I would certainly feel better about it being legit.

original thread

this is fake all the way.

the primary rom chip is obviously wrong- it has a standard eeprom part # (29Fxxx) instead of a matching game code (SHVC-AIAJ for this game).

the board looks legit at a glance but is also fake, which i don't think i've seen before. The new board has been designed to mimic an original Nintendo 1A0N board but there are a couple things off:
The rounded pins were the first thing I noticed- nintendo boards have pins that come to a point.
A smaller detail is the "Nintendo" text under the blue cap- it's printed in a generic font, where real boards have a font that matches their logo.

The lockout chip is a real one pulled from another cart. The caps are irrelevant as they are a commodity part. ]]>

Seems like this is actually the proper place to post this. I am trying to sell my Secret of Mana on ebay right now and while I bought it 10 years ago (long before the heyday of SNES repros, I believe) I just wanted to make sure what I've got is legit as my gutshot doesn't match some pictures I've seen online. Any help is greatly appreciated.

everything here looks legit assuming K2 is the game code for secret of mana. what do you have concerns about? ]]>
