Yeah, I really wanted to play this week and didn't have enough time to get my reps in. I also didn't realize I could point press until it was to late. I'll just say that there is a lucrative point pressing location where you get over 80k per life that you burn, and requires just standing there and rapidly pressing B. It's not a big secret either. The Twin Galaxies record holder has videos showing how he did it.

So I burned four lives at that spot, grabbed the 1up in level 5, and then burned my two remaining lives killing enemies in 6-1. I didn't get the random 1up in level 4.

I also left a lot of points on the table. The world record is well over 600k.
Nice win man.  Why didn't you beat the game in your run?  I don't know how many points you get for beating it, but that's why I didn't point press the last level.  Easy just to run through and beat the bosses.

 
You don't get a huge amount of points for beating the game. I preferred to just run down the timer killing enemies.
