But I think a lot of people thought it should go the other way. Whether they were looking at how it looks inserted in a Famicom or they were wanting it to match how Konami carts were, most ended up upside down.

I have two Namco carts with top labels. Both are upside down.
One thing I just realized is that Galaxian, Namco's first release in 1984, was the first Famicom game to have a top label of any kind. That's an interesting theory on why they chose that. Konami started releasing games a year later and they chose the other way. ]]>
