Hi everyone! I found out about this forum today from bunnyboy and his amazing tutorials. I recently decided to get into learning 6502 so I was hoping I could ask my hundreds of questions here on these forums if you'll have me! I tried signing up on another forum I found www.nestalgia.ca but wasn't sure how active that one was or what's happening over there.
My very first question is in setting up my development environment. I've been writing software (mostly web based) for 10 years so I currently have a triple monitor setup with a vertical screen for all my code. Everything I do is in Linux so I have compiled bunnyboy's NESASM compiler into a .sh script to run in Linux and it works great for compiling the simple 6502 programs I've been testing with. I also have a Powerpak for testing the simple games I've written on actual hardware.
So more specifically, are there tools I can use to see what is happening behind the scenes? Can I see the colour palettes as they're loading? Can I see the backgrounds before they're being shown on screen? Can I see the sprites which have been loaded? I'm wondering which programs and tools I need to have on screen in order to see all the debugging information I can possibly see in order to save myself loads of time trying to track down simple irregularities in my code.
Thanks!
