Today, I was looking for the rom of the rare, pirated ''Doki Doki Panic'' cart, But it seems no one but Kevtris has it, and Kevtris seems to be history unless he reappears.
This is because of a project I have been working on, If anyone found Kevtris then post here, or if anyone has the rom (or owns the cart, and extract the rom for me) then please PM or email it to me at JAJJMM(at)MSN.COM, and replace the (at) with @
I am not trying to be a pirate. and after I am done with it, I will make 2 IPS patches:
SMB2toDDP.IPS (turns your SMB2 PRG0 rom to a DDP NES ROM)
DDPv2.IPS (Adds extended music channels and maybe (not right that moment) CHR-ROM)
Kev is stil pretty active ya know...
altough less on the forums lately. try the irc channel #nesdev @efnet
Thank you for the irc address, see ya!
EDIT: Got it working. But Kevtris is not active right now. I will see later

You found the dump of the fami pirate of Doki Doki? If so could you post a link or shoot me a PM? I love this game to death and I've been kicking myself ever sense I sold mine a couple years ago. Here's hoping it doesn't use a retarded mapper! Here's hoping your patch is alot better than the hack of smb 2 that is so brutally incompleted.
is the "pirate kart" a conversion of the FDS game to NES or what?
Yes its a pirate. And yes it uses a retarted mapper.
Since we are talking about pirated cart, as anybody saw Arumana no kiseki once in rom format? I remember playing it as a FC pirate cart long time ago but I don't remember seeing it as a rom, only found the FDS one.
An isp for smb2 seems an odd choice to me since they don't share much of the same information. The isp would basicly "overwrite smb2 with DDPP"...
You're not even making anything more "legal" in this case. What supposively makes isp files legal is that all the information in the isp file is fan created information. Putting pirated information in an isp doesn't make it legal.
I own one of these carts which I will some day get around to dumping but it's not really useful information to have. It's a pirate mapper so it's not useful for repros in it's current form. I don't know if the mapper is emulator supported, but the oringal DDP is emulator supported (for the ones that support FDS).

IPS is in a patching format for ROMHacking people that legalizes the Rom Modification process, and you can make an IPS from any official ROM to the other as long as you do not put it on any disk, put it on the internet as a ROM and/or sell it). Try RomHacking.net and download ''Lunar IPS'' for more info
EDIT: Please email me the rom and pictures of the board and it's chips if you have it. It might be useful for me.
It checks the difference betweent he roms and saves this. In this case the guy is right hamtaro. The rom would be totally different therefore the patch would contain the entire rom. Rendering it illigal.

Then I think this is out. I will do something else.
Volunteer for the Peace Corps, perhaps?
What mapper does the pirate cart use just out of curiosity? Perhaps it's one that is known to be able to be converted to MMC1 or MMC3?
I thought Doki Doki Panic was released on the Famicom Disk System?
The image I have, Yume Koujou Doki Doki Panic, is an FDS image.
Yeah apparently there is a cartridge form of it as well. I have a nice hi-res scan of the PCB that I received a while back from someone who owned one. You can check it out
here
That shouldn't be TOO hard to figure out with a dump, there's only 4 register bits and one or two of them control the IRQ counter.

Is this a Doki Doki cart or SMB2j? My Doki Doki cart didn't look anything like that. No where near as much logic on the board I had and there was also an inverter (or was a buffer) on the back of the pcb. It was either a 7402 or a 7408 I forget which.

All doki carts are pirates.

Ah yes it is SMB2j, my mistake
Kev was lent a cart by my friend Kelvin back in the day. I might even have it somewhere on a backup. That doesn't mean that emulators support the mapper though. Chances if it was real back in the day that Q added support for it in Nintendulator since Kev and Q were a monster team and all.
Either or, it's around... And I might even have a cart of it somewhere.
This thread hasn't been active in a while, but...

I received a (pirate, obviously) Arumana No Kiseki cart the other day. I haven't traced out the cart board yet, but it has CHR RAM, WRAM, and mapper hardware is a PAL16L8, two 74LS670, 74LS90 and 4020 chips. Title screen text has been changed to read "(c) KISS 1989". It should be fairly simple to dump that in due course.

Cool. I remember playing that game as a kid. The rental video store had it. I didn't know at the time that it was a pirate cart. As if it was written kiss 1989, hmm... good question.
I remember the music is different from the FDS version since the real game uses a lot the extra channel. I want to hear that version again. If someone ever dump it someday, I want the nsf
I want to hear it again. It will bring back memories.
I still want to buy the original thought. Game I like, I always buy them. But the problem is those #$"% floppy disk fail so easily.. The current street price in Akihabara is easily 30$/40$ so paying that much for a game that will fail eventually seems wrong. Getting the pirate cart will have more chance of surviving longer than the original
But today, it must be quite hard to find it.
If you find an extra one, which I think would be quite unlikely, let me know
So any news on that Doki Doki binary?

There is a torrent, but you have to google it up, I am talking to the guy who made FCEUX, so wish me luck,
Oh, and if anyone wants Disch's mapper info (Mapper 103), then PM me,
If you're just looking for the ROM file that is SMB2-USA with the DDP characters, I have it.
Keep the following in mind however:
The original Doki Doki Panic has a different story, and consequently different gameplay: You must beat the entire game four times, once with each character in order to reach the ending screen, which is different than the SMB2-USA ending.
If you really want to make a DP ROM, I suggest using the FDS image as a source and doing a ROM conversion of the code, assuming you are up to the task.
If all you want is the DDP patched ROM for SMB2-USA, let me know. I have both that and the FDS image of the real game.

EDIT:
This link should give you an idea of how different DDP really is from SMB2-USA:

I know these differences, I also already found that rom in a torrent.
I do not need help for finding this DDP rom anymore, Thanks though!
BTW: Links containing ROM links are not allowed here. Can some Moderator or Admin take care of that please?
necrobump,
so anyone actually have an IPS to make mario 2 usa into a DDP "look-a-like" or a mapper conversion from the mapper 103 version of the ddp pirate dump to say mapper 4?
Hell I'd even pay cash to have a mapper 4 version.
Asking for ROMs have the same effect. Plus, an IPS file could bring an entire image if the hacking was more than "patching".
Hamtaro126 wrote:

What ever came of this, was there ever a proper conversion or hack to make a playable DDP rom that was identical to the original DDP FDS game?
I am sure that people were working on that project a few years ago, but I guess it got abandoned.
Making pirate carts of FDS games is insanely easy if you invent your own mapper to simulate the memory mapping of the FDS. 8K of RAM at 6000, 24k of RAM at 8000, then 8k of ROM at E000. Then just write some file loader to replace the BIOS functions.

I wouldn't say
insanely easy. I remember seeing the bios disassembled and commented. Well, you may replace it by a C equivalent, but the inner works of the FDS device, AFAIK, are still required for emulating it.
I've Dokidoki Panic fds rom hack mapper to MMC5.

pm back.
Did someone finally converted that game to a common mapper ie MMC3 or MMC5 ?
I would also like to see a non-FDS hack of Doki Doki panic.

there's an mmc5 conversion out there, and it does work on a cart. I don't know who did the work for it. It's missing some sound effects which I assume were done with expansion audio. It also does not save as far as I can tell, which I think is a bigger problem due to the game design. I guess it's no worse than a pirate cart, but it would be really nice if it were possible to save your progress.

Disch, But it is lost in the RHDN forum archives, But due to stupidity on the forums (on my part), I do not want to go on RHDN's forums EVER...

Sorry for necrobump. About memory - all correct(3 IC's for a first look), just add IRQ circuit and FDS sound.
Anyone knows who did the Doki Doki Panic MMC5 conversion? I've checked out the loadercode and it's using some "MMC5-bits" not documented in the wiki..
As previously stated, Disch worked on it... But it was partial and unfinished, and he may never finish it!
