Hey everyone. Long time no see!
I'll finally be showing the unfinished Grand Theftendo in action at GDC on Tuesday along with some of its source code and the tools used to develop it.

Which mapper does this game use, MMC5?
Hey brian...good seeing you around again. Any chance you have a mirror of your old website? It had some awesome info.
Awesome, I'm interested in the tech details too, and to see how far along this was before being ported to the newer systems. I've only heard about this, never seen you or it though, so I'm super excited to see what started out as just a NES homebrew!
Thanks guys. Yeah it was MMC5.
Archive.org has a mirror.
Any word on how far along it got/you got before deciding it's fate?
The core functionality was there. Stealing cars. Random pedestrians/cars moving around the city. A couple simple missions from GTA3. The whole city was in there, in 8-bit. Had a bunch of weapons too, the hud, dialogue/NIS. But in the big picture it was FAR from complete.
Wow, nice. Great start though. Can't wait to see this. Emulators accurate enough to play it?
Yeah I used FCEU and Nintendulator.
PS. From my experience, sometimes if it worked on hardware but didn't work in the emulator, it was a bug in my code, not the emulator hehe. Making sure it ran on both was always a good way to make sure the code was robust!
Nice. Can't wait to see a gameplay video...
Any chance you would release the rom, or source for people to play around with? It would be a shame if the public never got to play this
And by public, I mean me.
Meh, I actually like the Wii/Xbox version better anyways, Hope it will make it!
Someone PLEASE bring a video camera so those of use not lucky enough to be there get to see a glimpse of this!
Brian: Video captures of the game would be a real treat aswell
.
Is there a pass to see this which isn't $1k? Or can I take you out to lunch/dinner instead?
Good to hear that the project is still alive and going good. I was always interested in it.
This project is actually what got me interested in nesdev in the first place. Not that I have anything to show for it!
Like others, I would love to know more about it; even if you won't share code or the ROM, just anything you could tell us about it would be awesome, difficulties you had, tricks you used, ways you worked around the limitations.

The NES one has been dead for a while sadly. But still, doesn't mean somebody else can't take on the challenge.
If you can, get me some inside info on BF3, Please! Haha, just kidding! (Sort of), but I hope it all goes well Bryan. Maybe one day I will be there, too.
Is he programming it with ASM or is it just to look like it's for the NES?
It was on MMC5 with his own language I think he said.

His "own language" is NESHLA.
The NES version yes, but I think CKY-2K/Clay Man was asking about the version that will come out for current consoles...
What about a famicom version?
The Famicom and the NTSC NES run the same software, so what applies to one will apply to the other.
