ok I made a bubble bath babes cart and the graphics are all missed up
I tested the rom on a emulator played fine I used cajoNES to split the rom
and used hex eidtor to make the pgr chip to 64k I used 27c512 chips I already tried to change the V & H slots no change
Are there any diodes installed on the board? If so, you could try removing them. Some CNROM carts had them on there as a kind of simple protection, in different configurations for different games. There would be a symbol like this:
http://www.markallen.com/teaching/ucsd/147a/lectures/lecture3/5.php
no diodes on the board I have the same prob with hot slots
You should probably mod your board so that D2 is also latched, allowing for 64kb of CHR-ROM instead of the "standard" 32kb Nintendo default.
(or, again, buy a power pak because I've already told my troughts about people posting stuff into NES hardware in the ONLY purpose to make bootlegs)

how do I do that

PowerPak emulates official CNROM, not clone boards such as Panesian's.

The powerpak is just a bootleg also so WTF?
Why not just explain to him what he's looking to do seeing as you know what he's talking about instead of shitting on him for wanting to learn?
PowerPAK is not a "bootleg". It's a cartridge with RAM and a FPGA that lets you do whatever you want with it. You can't pass it off as a bootleg of some game. Now a cartridge with EPROMs hacked into place and a new label slapped on it certainly is a bootleg. Sorry but you just seemed to be insulting or belittling the PowerPAK.
Also your arguement about people wanting to "learn" doesn't hold up well since it seems many people building cartridges ask the same things over and over because they don't understand what they are doing thus they need instructions for everything.
gamedude:
What you need to do is look at how D0 and D1 of the CPU connect to the 74HC161 chip on the PCB. Then you need to connect D2 in the same manner which will allow your board to support 64K max rather than 32K. You'll need to find the next free input and output on the chip which means you need to google a data sheet for 74HC161. That next free input and output as I said should be used with D2, the two sets already in use connect to D0 and D1 so you'll have a perfect example of what you need to do already on the board.

Yeah that's exactly what I was thinking, better worded.
And yeah for the answer you need to connect D2 of your '161 to PRG D2 after cutting it from anything else it may be connected (VCC or GND I guess), and connect Q2 of the '161 to A14 of your CHR-ROM. I'm pretty sure it's not the first time this is said on this board tough.

I think Bunnyboy wouldn't agree with that statement but I will let him defend that part
Regarding the recent spur of "I want to make repro X", the reason I don't agree much with it is because I helped a few person that promised that they will make tutorial for helping making them. What happened? We never heard back of them. If they really made tutorials, they never posted back on nesdev.

If I find any CNROM donors at the pawn and I feel up to the task I might make this particular guide as I know alot of folks want to be able to repro the porno games.

CNROM games are some of the easiest to find.

If someone that have interest in repro could in the end make those guides, we could after that re-direct those threads to that guide either on the wiki or a text document, which ever is easier to use. The only problem, like I mentioned, is most of those people are not regulars and vanished after their repro were done.
I helped another person recently for pins for JDEC and VRCIV for gradius 2 through pm and when I asked a question once he got the information he was looking for, I never received back any answer at all. But when he didn't have the answer, he was answering right away. Maybe in that case it's not intentional and the person is not a regular but still. This is usually what happen. So I'm a little bit bitter in the end. Maybe once the person saw this message he will check the simple message I sent, who knows
But for now, unless I know it's for a devcart, I may not be as nice anymore.
OK so oficially we'll stop helping people to make bootlegs from now on, right ?
We cannot really dictate the rules for the forum since the question was already asked in the general forum and Memblers didn't have an issue about it but for sure, the more we answer questions on how to make them, the more they will come here.
I will try to refrain myself to help on the subject (usually I don't) because of past experience but I cannot stop other people helping if they feel like it.
For me it's clear: I want to focus on nesdev, not bootlegging games. So if I read the hardware and flash equipment forum it's because I want to see things related to deving.

So will I.

I 100% agree. Especially considering there is enough info avaialbe arround, and that someone who has a bit of experience in electronics should be able to figure things by themselves. Other people shouldn't bother bootleging carts anyway.

Very understandable, I think I also posted in regards to helping the same person. It really sucks when they are dinner and dash type of folks but you can only hope that some will stay and take their intrest to the next step and maybe hack a game, then god willing actually code *sometinng*. I know it's a stretch to think this will happen even 2 out of 10 times but hey, I guess I'm just feeling optimistic today
I know I started out as a noob not knowing jack about 5 years ago when it came to the atari machines, pinouts of chips, reading ASM or coding 6502 and now I've released my own work. So seeing as I'm a case of Noob to Dev at least in the atari world I can see it happening for NES too. Mind you the most I've been able to get together on the NES so far is how some of the simple mappers work and how to hack up existing games but I might one day make something of my own to share with the NES world or I might just end up posting yet another SMB1 hack who knows
Wow, it's a kind of revolution here, isn't it? Well, I don't mind people wanting to make repros/bootlegs, there are many good reasons for a person to do this: play games that are hard to find, games of other regions, homebrews, translations, hacks, etc. What bothers me is that nobody seems to do any research before asking. We see the same questions over and over, and this is the annoying part.
Yeah, we really need a FAQ for things like that.
Well as far as I can recall I've always been more insterested in developing games than playing them since I was 11 years old, maybe even before. I just completely lacked any programming skills.
And there is not much reason people who knowns nothing about electronics would want to open crack their carts and makes experiments. Emulators allow you to play games that are hard to find. With accurate emulation and NTSC filter there is NOT any reason not to use them, in fact even since I have a power pak I still prefer playing games emulated because of the better screen of my computer, NTSC emulation, reliable saves, no TV buzzing noise, no graphic glitches and flickering POWER button, etc...
Which makes me think that they think it's a good way to make a quick buck by selling bootlegs.
I seem to remember Bananmos putting it like this:
If I am developing a video game, and I know all players will use emulators, why shouldn't I just switch to a native framework like SDL or Allegro?
tepples wrote:

The NES is still a more controlled environment than all the flavors of Windows and Linux out there. Plus, if you are aiming for "that look", nothing is better than an emulator of a system with "that look" (although some people like to mimic some characteristics of old gaming systems while totally ignoring others when developing native PC games that look like old games).
Because your goal was not to make a video game in the pure sense of the word put to experiment on a specific platform. What is wrong with that? You can learn a lot from working on obscure platforms because of the limitation they have. In that case, the emulators can cut a lot of testing time and if people want to learn from it, they don't need to have that platform with the current state of technologies. Why would they? (and I think we derailed the main thread thought).
I got an answer from the person I helped for the VRCIV so at least I feel better about helping him. Maybe my concern in that thread helped

Thanks for the help I got it working the reason I wanted to make a repro of these games is because I am a collector and I dont really wont to pay 200.00 plus for these carts they are nice to have but not that nice as for playing them on a emulator I dont enjoy them as much as playing them on the orginal hardware and I am always up for helping people if I have the answer and some day I would like to do some Translation Hacks
of a few games

So where are the pics of your work and a simple explanation for others on how to do it? I think it's only fair to share

So after all this it's another case of "Dinner & Dash"?
The probabilities are high. We will know soon if something is posted but usually this is what happen: nothing.

Well then that user and their IP should be banned.
Let the guy be... If he doesn't feel like helping, so what? If you're really mad at him just don't help the next time he needs.

If it wasn't for this thread and the help he got from it he wouldn't have his little porno repro's so ya, I only think it's fair to at least snap a couple pictures of the finished work for the tactile learners in the house.
