I got the idea yesterday that it would be kinda cool if there was a boss rush mode in Ninja Gaiden, which happens to be one of my favorite NES games. So I decided to go ahead and hack the ROM so that you only play the boss stages.
You'll start the game with the fire weapon and 25 in spiritual strength. Spiritual strength will not be regained until after a game over, so I suggest that you save it until stage 6-4, or you're likely to get your rear end handed to you.
If you want to try out the hack you can get the IPS file from here. It's based on a dump named NINJA_GA.NES (262,287 bytes), which is the U.S. version. It might work with the European/Japanese version as well, but I haven't tried it.
Further improvements could be e.g.:
* Automatically skipping the cutscenes so that you don't have to press the start button in between stages.
* Only regaining half of the energy lost in between stages, to make it a bit more challenging.
