I have a 2005 Toshiba CRT television that has served me faithfully. However, I have recently been getting a wierd dark spot near the top left corner of the display. Does anyone here know what exactly this is/a possible fix? This TV isn't that old, and it's not burn-in in the traditional sense, although it may be deterioration. It's a nice big 27" display, so I'd prefer not to have to find a new(ish) one.

Can you take a photo ? Magnetisation related problems typically cause discoloration rather than dark or bright spots.
The TV inself dagausses the the tube every time you turn it on, but that mechanism can fail and eventually there's more and more discoloration. When you turn it on there's typically a clunk sound. When its gone the degauss coil trigger thing is shot.
Could be a flaw in the aperture grille / mesh.
Could be a speck of dust or carbon (impurity) that blocked one of the holes in the mesh.
Could be a dead area in the phosphor layer.
I would say one of these is most likely. My gaming monitor has a microscopic dark spot on the screen too.
For somebody who claims to travel through space and time, will never die and has massive telephone box with which he can travel around in you seem to be having a hard time solving your problem.
Can't you use the Tardis to go back to the shop where you bought the monitor and buy an extra one?
I bought a professional degaussing coil for $40, they are really quite affordable. Just make sure you don't use it near any magnetically stored media and try not to give yourself cancer with it.

$40 is a lot considering the economic climate and the fact that could go towards another CRT.
It was to fix a number of arcade monitors which are not easy or cheap to fully replace. $40 is hardly prohibitively expensive.
Besides, this is a thread on how to fix a CRT so I don't really know where your post is coming from.

Surely with the decline of CRTs over the past decade they must be harder to find but also a little cheaper to get your hands on. $40 IMO could go towards getting another one but if he wants to repair his current one with it then that is fine.
$40 isn't exactly cheap dude.

Tools are expensive, dude. We're hobbyists so this shouldn't come as a surprise, and as far as equipment like this goes $40 isn't bad. I'm guessing you've never looked into it but arcade monitors are quite difficult to find and they tend to cost into the range of hundreds. $40 for a tool to spare myself about $600 to replace a few magnetized screens is something I can live with.
