Nintendo DS Lite issues
by on (#122607)
I have several issues with my DS Lite. First, the L and R buttons barely work (if at all). They trigger when I don't want them to, and they don't trigger when I want them to. Second, the touch screen has a dent in it which throws it off. Third, the power switch broke, so I have to turn it on with a screwdriver. Is there any way I can fix any of these problems?

I once managed to repair the L and R buttons on my GBA SP, and it was a miracle that it worked. I had to stuff something next to the contact switch to make it trigger more reliably, I used wadded up aluminum foil, but I don't think it had to be conductive.

But it's probably time for Ebay. Find a broken one if you want to get a power switch.

Dealextreme sells a lot of these little parts. Free shipping.

They also have a certain other part I need...

Also, those parts are really cheap, but A) I don't know how to do soldering, and B) I lost the screwdriver I used to crack it open in the first place (which wasn't the right kind anyway).

EDIT: I also need A) the plastic slider thing that was part of the power switch, and B) a stylus (though the last one isn't that big a deal since I can improvise).

Also, I need money.

ANOTHER EDIT: Found the screwdriver I need

You could by an entire replacement shell... from your description of this DS so far I wouldn't expect it's current shell to be in good shape!

Stylus' are dirty cheap... apparently you can buy a pack of 50 for US$3.12!

A "standard" (flat head) driver from a dollar store set of precision screwdrivers will fit the DS Lite's triwing screws.

I had to remove the plastic slider thingy so I could access what remained of the power switch. Also, I don't trust Ebay.

That was the kind of screwdriver that I was using before I lost it. HOWEVER, if I am going to get a replacement screwdriver for it, I am going to get the right kind.

In the end it depends on the seller, if their reputation is good you're probably safe. I've had mail problems with items I bought on eBay a few times and every time sellers were willing to give the money back or send a new product. Also, a lot of this stuff from China is so cheap that it wouldn't be such a loss if a package got lost for whatever reason.

If I, living in a country with corrupt government, crappy mail service and abusive import taxes, can buy on eBay without major problems, most people in the world should be able to as well. =)
