How up-to-date is GoodNES?
by on (#135130)
I noticed that even the latest version of GoodNES doesn't include the "Tower of Radia" US prototype that I discovered recently.
So, I'm asking: How up-to-date is GoodNES actually?

Apart from homebrew games, public domain stuff, hacks and unlicensed titles: Are there many games that exist as a ROM, but that are unknown to GoodNES?

Cowering took something like a decade-long break ... GoodNES 3.14 is fairly ancient by now. He has quite recently released something newer (3.23) but I haven't really checked its coverage.

In fact its been updated twice in the past year. But to be fair its exclusively stuff coming out of the far east. All western ROMs that you need/want are already there.

Well, recently I found an English prototype of "The Tower of Radia" on the internet which is different from the fan translation of "Radia Senki" and it seems to have been there since around 2010. And GoodNES does not list it.

That's why I'm asking which other games for Japan, the USA or Europe (I don't really care for that unlicensed stuff) that never came out might have been already dumped that are not in GoodNES's list. It's always interesting what "prototypes" exist that are basically complete games that just were never released.

Sorry, I didn't mean to imply that 3.14 was 'complete' as such. Just it contains 99.9% of what emulator authors really want. Obviously, the more the merrier.

So, any place where I can find which games are missing?

You mean, you want us to link you to a ROM Site?

I don't see how a ROM site would be necessary to answer the question. A list of titles of licensed Famicom and NES releases that are known to be missing from GoodNES would not violate copyright in any way that I'm aware of.

Yes but his original post isn't very specific. I agree that he hasn't specifically requested any ROMs or links to ROM sites but it could be taken as a request therefore.

My original post is very specific. And you know what? I'm pretty sure that you're literally the only person here who understood it as a ROM request.

Yeah, in the same way the question "What cars did Ford produce that they never released?" could be taken as a request to steal a bunch of these cars.

Not only them (I'm quite positive that all actually released games will be there), but also prototypes of games that never came out and that come from companies who produced licensed games.

Sorry, thought it was one of these situations.

I don't know if these two catalog stuff like prototypes, but have you checked NES Cart DB or No-Intro?
