What is your favorite video game console?
by on (#140179)
I always wanted to ask this, and because nothing is too irrelevant for the General Stuff forum, I can. I wanted to make this into a poll, but I included too many options, so I'll just update this regularly. (I'm on this website enough! :P ) I think I covered all the non very random ones, but I could have missed one, so tell me and I'll add it. I could include something like the FM Toons Marty, but then I'd have to include a bunch of other stuff. My favorite video game consoles are in this order:

SNES
N64
NES
Genesis

(Score 1 for SNES!)

The reason I chose top 4 is because these are very close together and my other favorite consoles are a ways away. (I often have trouble deciding whether or not I like the N64 or NES more.) Note: I have not played all the game consoles on this list.

That's a tough one. I guess it depends on my mood. Sega's and Nintendo's 8 and 16-bit consoles are definitely the top 4, but the exact order varies a little. Genesis and NES alternate 1st and 2nd places, SNES and SMS alternate 3rd and 4th. After those there a few others I really like: Atari 2600, Game Boy, PS2.

I'll have to go with the SNES here. With a very distinctive sound and visual look, and developers were finally figuring out how to draw really great looking 16-color sprites. Secret of Mana looked and sounded amazing, along with Final Fantasy III and Chrono Trigger.

Yeah, I can add those, but at this rate, I might as as well add the Bally Astrocade, or hell, even the CPS changer...

If you're wondering how I know a bunch of random stuff...

Yeah, but then I might as well add the Commodore 64, the Amiga, and all the Atari computers. Coleco also made some computers, if I remember correctly.

Then I'll put both! :P

You know, call me crazy, but I never really liked RPGs. I never found them enjoyable, because if I'm playing a game, I want to feel tense, like playing Contra on you're last life or something, not to read a bunch of text boxes. I know what you're thinking, why is the SNES even you're favorite console? Well, there are tons of good games for the SNES (I own 30+ SNES games that I play regularly, with not a single one being an RPG) with my favorite being the DKC games. I do feel that the SNES didn't get enough love with shooters though, even if the hardware is perfectly capable. (with 128 sprites, I'd say so! ) I think R-type 3 makes up for it though, even If it is really short. (Shooters aren't exactly known for their length.)

SNES is my fav.
Re: What is your favorite video game console?

Technically, I can't say the Gameboy Advance (because it's a portable handheld, not a console), so I'm torn between the SNES, the Playstation, and the Playstation 2. I'm big on JRPGs, and all three systems have some of the best. Do I choose Chrono Trigger or Valkyrie Chronicles or Tales of the Abyss? And to boot, all three also have Star Ocean games. Ultimately, I spent more time with my PS2, and it was more memorable for me.

Aside from JRPGs, goodness, I spent hours upon hours playing Ace Combat 04 (the music was/still is incredible), Burnout, Killzone (the 1st game is rather silly, but fun all the same). Metal Gear Solid 3 was absolute brilliance when I played it, and I felt that way all over again when I did another run on PCSX2.

Well, I'm just going to put PS2.

Oh, yeah, I actually forgot to mention that. My bad. PS2 it is, if my post wasn't clear enough.

Did we want to make this into a poll? (Forum does support that...)

Does it support 30 different options? Like I said, I'm on this website enough. It's my life!

I believe that every console has its gems, or masterpieces. ^_^;; A kid playing Mega Man 2 can't describe the same of another kid back to 90's. In other words, I surely say NES because I played at that time, same for the releases of Super NES, N64, Game Cube, Wii...

1. NES - basically, my love for Mega Man games and masterpieces like Battletoads, Gradius II and many others.
2. Nintendo 64 - a different gameplay experience, played Star Fox 64 for the first time, later Mario 64, Donkey Kong 64. Surely masterpieces.
3. Super NES - one game, one feeling, Street Fighter II. Let me mention Super Metroid as *the* masterpiece of all times.
4. Game Cube - again, one game, one feeling, Super Mario Sunshine. Not much here... perhaps Metroid games and that's it. -_-;; Games like Star Fox were "crap".
5. Wii - the Virtual Console and NES-style games like Mega Man 9 and 10.

Sounds like you haven't played a lot of consoles if GameCube is you're 4th favorite and you still don't seem to like it that much. I'm kind of surprised you didn't put Sega Genesis or Master System for one of them, as I thought they were popular in Brazil.

Take a guess ;)

In fact, it's a tie between the NES and the Vectrex
Re: What is your favorite video game console?
by on (#140301)
Oh, I forgot to add the Vectrex... (That things a mutant console/TV, so I wasn't really thinking about it, but it is still definitely a video game console.) I will put you down for both.
Re: What is your favorite video game console?

Mega Drive takes the cake for me, with NES being a close second.
Re: What is your favorite video game console?

It has to be a toss-up between NES and SNES. NES debuted many of the pioneering series of console gaming (Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, Castlevania, Megaman and so on...) while their SNES sequels added lots of polish to the basic idea. SNES would get a slight nod because games are no longer extremely difficult due to limited game engines (Compare Zelda I, Castlevania I-III with LTTP and Castlevania IV). Plus I find it to be the first console where graphic design could be enchanting with Chrono Trigger, Yoshi's Island and such.
Re: What is your favorite video game console?

I'd have to say it depends on mood. Personal Computer wins by a mile if we allow it, though, simply because editing utilities for games are far-more-often available and/or included, along with more generally programming things for it being easy rather than intentionally sealed away.

is the TI-99/4A on there yet?

A toss-up between N64, SNES, and Dreamcast, though, for multiplayer memories.

no longer so hard because of limited game engines
Less a function of the console; I'd argue, than developer/industry experience level...comparing Link's Awakening and Zelda 1 seems more apt.

I didn't really want to bring computers into this, but I guess adding one won't hurt. :P

NES. It's the only one that never gets put away.
