The illustration "Stupid Moron Bros. 2" (sticker; poster) from the 1991 series of Topps Wacky Packages is like an inkblot test for your experiences in the Nintendo fandom.

  • In the late 1980s, some of us had to deal with older relatives who didn't know the difference between tape and ROM and couldn't be taught because Nintendo had successfully made the NES look more like a VCR than a pre-Crash game console. If you first notice the VHS tape, you had a grandma who called them "Nintendo tapes".
  • If you play Super Smash Bros., you notice Mario doing a grab move on Luigi in preparation for a throw.
  • If you collect homebrew on cartridge, you notice the "Nutendo Seal of Stupidity" prefiguring bunnyboy's seal logo. In #nesdev, bunnyboy claimed his seal was designed independently around the same time as this set of Wacky Packages.

Never really heard anyone call them tapes until I heard Dr. Dos's prank calls, then Homestar Runner mentions "some old sega tapes".
