Hi all. I was wondering how many other people besides myself on these forums did not have an SNES when growing up? Specifically, people who were alive and around the right "video-game-playing" age when the SNES was first released. I had a Nintendo, but then transitioned directly to PlayStation. I always wanted a SNES but parents couldn't afford it.
I thought of this question because I've always wanted to play through the most popular SNES games (e.g. Super Mario World, Link to the Past, Super Metroid, etc). I've had access to an SNES emulator forever but never really got into playing SNES games on my computer. I also actually have an original SNES with those particular games but it's a hassle to set it up and tear it down each time I want to play.
But I recently downloaded those 3 particular games to my Nintendo 3DS from the Nintendo eShop and have been having a blast playing through them in the last few weeks. There's something about being able to just flip my 3DS open and have the game right there with 0 load time, 0 hassles, and being able to take it with me wherever I go. I've already played through and beaten Super Mario World and Super Metroid for the first time ever and they are so much fun!! And I can't wait to start playing through Link to the Past!!
One of the other cool things about playing through these games is I'm picking up on a lot of SNES references/characters that I've heard people use in the past but never picked up on since I had never played the games before.
I'm guessing that this type of experience is in the very small minority of the folks here on NesDev?
