So I just came across this on the internet. Apparently there is a group of people out there who think that he Earth is flat and not spherical. Just watch the youtube video. I was speechless.

Sadly, it's mostly just a publicity stunt by now - by watching their video and talking about it, you're only helping them.
We will not stop until our Flat Earth message is spread all around the world.

Dwedit: That particular FB page is known satire though.
The flat earth society has members all on top of the pancake.
I was kinda shocked when I first heard of this, but this is actually not that much more absurd than a lot of other beliefs out there. People are weird, so try not to put much thinking into this.
I don't mind if one or two people say "hmm, I wonder if the earth is flat or not?", but what I do mind is organized ignorance.
Sure the earth looks flat locally, but globally it is spherical. It's a somewhat abstract idea, but most people are able to handle this without issues. These people though...
I can't understand how people believe this...
I wonder how they can explain away a scenario like a airplane, if it had enough fuel, being able fly in one direction and end up back where it started. If the earth was flat, then how would it be possible? If the plane kept flying in a straight line wouldn't it end up in space?
Bonus laugh is the "snow globe" thingy they have that just shows the ocean falling off the edge of the earth. If all the water was falling off the edge, how do we have a tide?
But I agree with Quietust, in that it's got to be more of a 10 seconds of fame thing than anything else.
I thought we already determined the Earth was a donut?
That contradicts "ERAU QSSI DLRO WEHT"
Ahem, XINE ERAU QSSI DLRO WEHT
(The forum swallowed my other joke because the tables
still haven't been
upgraded to utf8mb4.)

Dang it, I was just about to say that same joke, but you beat me to it.
This community is really old by internet standards. I remember at some point in the past discovering their forums and debating with them trying to argue logic. It then struck me that the only possible explanation is that they were defending an absurd idea just to excercise arguing skills. Some sort of debate challenge. At least I think that's how it started, but then came in some people who actually believe the earth is flat.
Here's a post from 2007 I replied to. Sadly the 3D images I created are lost.

Otherwise known as
Usenet.
Yes the earth is flat, the moon is holographic, there are no planets and space, moon landing was a hoax, aliens are walking among us,my favorite is Planet X and there evidence"sun dogs, lens reflections" ect.....

That depends on your country's border security, refugee admission, and guest worker admission policies.

There isn't even a Planet IX anymore.
lol. you can teach a middle schooler to prove the earth is round with nothing more than a hole in the ground on a sunny day.
that said, i am pretty fascinated by how extravagant some of these theories get.

Did they actually change that for the remakes?

As we can clearly tell in this picture:
No wind and the flag and Mario's cap are moving!

Mario's cap never moves though, otherwise they'd have to animate it. Like hair.

True, in the 8-bit era (
Donkey Kong through
SMB3), the cap was admittedly a shortcut to avoid animating hair. But by
Super Mario World, the cap is animated whenever Mario is descending from a jump. In
Super Mario 64, loss of the cap is a minor plot point in some levels, those with a certain monkey or strong winds.
Don't get me started about
Odyssey. "
Yo dawg, I put a Cappy on your Cappy..."
Earth is flat and wraps horizontally and vertically, and the sun light is just a scanline beam going across it.
Yes, the Earth is plan because it's a PLANet.
If it was a ball, it would be called a BALLet!!
If it was round, it would be called a ROUNDet!!
If it was a donut, it would be called a DONUTet!!
And so on...
