Vs. roms on an NES

So the PowerPak can run Vs. roms. How do I mod an NES to have a coin slot? Yeah, I know colors would be messed up on most games.

How do I add a second monitor for Playchoice games to the crap on the other screen? I know probably impossible, but I thought I'd ask.

Run it on a famicom and blow into the second controller

Okay, for real, you hack the rom to respond to Select to insert coins instead of the other way. I did it once when I hacked VS SMB to be mapper 3.

You have to add in extra vram, wram, and some data lines. The vram and wram can be done from the cart side (I believe the PowerPak provides for both right now...). The data lines have to be soldered on the NES side, it is not something the cart can electrically do.

There is a very good site explaining it at http://www.raphnet.net/electronique/nes_vs/nes_vs_en.php. Skip to step 7 and 8 (pages 9 and 10) for the coin and dips part. The mic in the second controller for Famicom uses one of those extra data lines, which is why blowing on it works :)

Palette changes are also explained there, but it can also be done by changing the palette already in rom instead of adding a new subroutine.

Pretty much forget about doing the Playchoice dual monitors. Those are driven by a separate Z80 processor.

Unless you want to try hacking them to run on a connected Sega Master System or something
