I live in europe and i have a PAL nes with the lockout chip disabled.
Recently i bought a power pak, but playing american games on it is slow.
Im thinking of buying a usa nes to use with my powerpak, but i have a few questions:
How mutch watt douse a nes use? since i need to buy a step down transformator i need to know how mutch watt i will need. is 100 Watt enough?
I have a SNES modded with a 50/60 hertz switch. In 50 Hertz mode i have black boarders on the top and bottom of the screen, when i switch to 60 Hertz, the games play faster and full screen(the boarders are gone). Is this the same with a american NES since it will also run on 60 Hertz?
If the tv im using works when i run my snes in 60 hertz mode will it also work with the american NES?
Thanks in advance!
The snes 50/60 hrtz switch doesnt affect what format your snes actually outputs. If its a pal snes it'll output pal 50/60 hrtz and if ntsc it'll do ntsc 50/60 hrtz. HOWEVER if your tv isnt too damn old and judging by the fact that it handles pal 60 hrtz fine.......you're probably ok with an ntsc nes video signal. The other question: yes your nes games wil run "faster" depending on what format they were programmed for.
edit: the power draw is usually measured in amps. You should probably looking for something that can give you about 2 amps (thats on the high end of things) and around 7-9v. <---thats for a power adaptor...just get one at a store near you.......waaaaaaaaay easier then using a step down for the american one.
Buy a american Nes, It _so_ worth it if you own a powerpak.
Not only can you play games like megaman 2 in the right speed, you also have the whole famicom/fds library to enjoy.
And you might actually use your PAL Nes power supply on a US Nes, just be sure to check the output voltage on YOUR power supply in YOUR region before you plug anything in...
My swedish nes power supply gives me AC9.8V/1.3A, just 0.8 volts more than the american one, and it works great.
well my adaptor outputs AC9V and 12VA, will that work ?
Also, no one has given a answer to my "Black boarder" question. Anyone know the answer?
Thanks
it _should_ work with your power supply. The important part is that it have a near 9v AC output...
And the borders will be gone...
then i guess i should order. Just one more question.
is the top loader really that mutch better than a normal NES? i mean it lacks AV out, and if you keep your game contacts clean and have a new 72 pin connector a normal NES will function well for many years right?
Ya if you want the advantages of a toploader (which arent really that great as long as you keep your games/connector clean) You might as well shell out a bit more for a famicom av with adaptor.....native av output, ntsc, and nice and toploading.
yeah well the advantages of a famicom dont seem to weight out the cost right?
I got mine for 60 bucks (thats WITH shipping) from japan....took 3 days to get here
well even if i got a famicom, does my original AV adaptor work?
I found a famicom that looks like a NES2 (the usa top loader), do those all have AV output? and are they 60 Hertz?
Also, i know japanese games use 60 pins and NTSC/PAL games use 72, would i need a converter?
Thanks again everyone
The famicom that looks like the nes2 is the famicom av. It ouputs ntsc. You need a special power adaptor (polarity wise its reversed from what's "standard") So one of those adjustable power supplies is recommended. You have to use a snes/n64/gc av cable with it. You need a nes game to famicom adaptor....but those arent TOO expensive if you know where to look.

There's no such thing as NTSC 50Hz
Yes there is...just no country in the world uses it
