Some NES clones, not the NOAC ones, have two ICs, the 6527 and 6528. Does anyone know how do these ICs work, are they some kind of modified 6502 and PPU or just work in a similar way to the NES as a system.
If there is a datasheet out there, can somebody post it?
I can only speculate, but I'd think they're just clones of the original die. Just as it's been said (by the designers of the 6502) that the 2A03 is a manually done replica of the 6502 (with the patented part removed - decimal mode).
does somebody has seen or used this processor or KNOW anything about it? maybe someone has this NES clone and can help me doing some tests.
Do you know what clones have these ICs?
I don't know how to identify it, I've only seen two kinds of nes clones: the NOAC ones and this kind that is full of DIPs, like the original NES but in a smaller case.
My Turbo Game, a brazilian clone, isn't NOAC-based and is full of ICs, like the NES. I haven't brought it to my new home yet, so I can't check if they have names right now. I'll try to remember to get the console the next opportunity I have.
thanks, please do so. If anyone else knows something please post it
Hey, sorry for taking so long. The Turbo Game has a 6547 and a 6548, as seen in
this picture. I couldn't find any datasheets.
Interesting to see that some groups are duplicating the Nintendo at an IC level...Unlucky me my btl SuperJoy3 has just two dies (low-quality NOAC, PROM/WRAM).
If they really are just clones then they would probably operate in a real console verbatim.
I see that they are socketed; Do you have any possibility of testing these on a legitimate console? That would probably be the fastest/easiest way to validate them as clones (and most people with a CopyNES will have removed the CPU and installed a socket anyways).

Since I have hardly ever been able to remove ICs without destroying their legs in the process, I wouldn't dare doing that to one of my NES consoles (I only have 2). Plus, we don't know if the pinout is the same, I wouldn't want to risk frying anything by dropping an incompatible IC in.
I've seen a few cpus come and go myself. I suppose I'll have to keep a look out for a btl that has the seperate ICs...These have always been somthing that coined my interests...I also have a couple spare CPUs so I really have nothing to lose.
