I just read that a bunch of Famicoms, from the initial release, were recalled due to a hardware bug that caused the system to crash. Does anyone have any details on what was wrong?
I'd heard this too, and that these Famicom's came with those Square button controllers. But I never heard anything specific which would be interesting to know. Otherwise it just seems like a rumor.
The recalled boards were Rev 4 and earlier. The problem was due to certain sprite actions occasionally causing certain games to crash. The recalled boards are as rare as hens' teeth, and Ive frankly never seen my Rev 04 crash, so the actual event happening is a fluke.
This was a separate issue fro the square buttons themselves. Honestly, I've never been able to make a square button controller catch in a corner either, so this too, ifs a far overrated potential problem.
