What are some of the best NROM complete hacks or homebrew games out there?
LJ65, Alter Ego, and Zooming Secretary come to mind for homebrew. No idea about hacks.
I can't speak for hacks either, but as for homebrew, I'm building up
a multicart of them.
Boom will be good. (Shameless plug)
But yeah Shirus stuff is good. Solar Wars too. Tepples LJ65 is a great tetris remake. I'm sure whatever tokumaru is cooking up will be solid, although not NROM I'd bet.
@ tepples. Just tried out the multicart. 2 of the ones Kasumi suggested were on there and I liked both. I also liked concentration room, thwaite, LAN master, and lawn mower. Will be trying to get a deadly towers cart to put this on.
@ Kasumi. Alter ego will be the next cart I make. Thanks.
@ 3gengames. watched video. looking forward to your release. Love game watch style games.
Hacks I've liked, all smb1 so far, are giabbit hunting, mikachu, and toads treasure quest. The first 2 are short, second really short, but cool concepts.
I'm surprised noone mentioned NESnake2 yet. It's definitely a great homebrew, and uses NROM.
Well IMO the best homebrew NROM game is the game I just finished up today.
Beaver Pong:
Okay well I lied, it's actually pretty lame...
Seriously though one of my favorite homebrew NROM games is "NES virus cleaner" by Roth. Speaking of the action52, did we ever talk to Roth about adding his game? I see it has the wrong mirroring but it doesn't appear he's using the other nametable anyway. Seems like running it with the opposite mirroring works fine.
Made these today.
I will check out Beaver Pong, Nes Virus Cleaner, and Nes Snake2. Thanks for the great suggestions.
PM me if you want 200dpi cart label images for LJ65 and Concentration Room. I still need to make one for Thwaite.
Preview of LJ65

Yeah it's not exactly cart worthy, that was more of a bad joke than anything.
If you looking for a good pong game check out Tepples' ZapPing on Zap ruder. You actually are able to play using the zapper
Although I might consider adding Beaver Pong as a graphics hack for ZapPing if you don't mind. That's one place where my games have tended to fall down: the "programmer art" tends to look simplistic.
Oh yeah, ZapPing supports two guns, and the Action 53 menu supports a gun too so that the player can start games that use two guns. And again, INL, thanks for making me the Super NES to NES controller adapter so that I could add mouse support to Thwaite.

REALLY?!?! I didn't really think of my art work as very special. I was merely making a first attempt at drawing on the NES and learning to use Shiru's tool. I was only shooting for something better than the stolen SMB graphics I was previously using before I put it on display for school. I would be interested in sharing my graphics I might have some other more better ideas in mind as well.

It was the least I could do in return for a great game!
Finally got some time and made a couple more. Thanks for the labels tepples. They look awesome.
***Edit***
Made these today and Thwaite and Zap Ruder. Just need to make labels. Love the Wii style control with zapper.
