Hello to all! I have acquired a Holy Diver prototype for the Nintendo Family Computer. I cannot seem to find a proper plugin to dump the game using my USB CopyNES. Any help or advice is appreciated. I do have an EPROM programmer so i can dump the PRG and CHR chips alone if you would like, but i would like a running .nes file.
It uses iNES mapper 78 I think.
Thanks!

If you are absolutely sure your eprom programmer is in working order and you know what part number/type each eprom is, that is the easiest way to dump it. You could dump it with CopyNES but you'd have to write your own plugin. The game has a very basic mapper.
Can you use debugging functions on the CopyNES with the cartridge running? If you can then you could dump it by manually writing the mapper register and then dumping the address space. Holy Diver contains eight 16Kb PRG-ROM pages and sixteen 8kb CHR-ROM pages.
If you dump it either way, making a NES file is easy. If you need help, we can help you with that.
You should be able to use the other Mapper 78 dumper (JF-16) from
BootGod's site, since the only difference between the two is mirroring behavior.
I mostly work with hardware. i'm only 16 so i have no formal college education yet. So, i cannot write a plugin, although i am very interested in NES 6502 assembly, and i am learning C. I don't want to risk damaging the chips by entering the wrong part number. So i need someone to write a plugin or alter an existing one. I tried all the Irem plugins from bootgod. None of them worked. If someone can alter that other mapper 78 file to make it dump with proper mirroring that would be great. I know i can dump PRG as UNROM though.
Thanks for the help guys!
Use the Jaleco JF-16 dumper, it will work.
The mirroring doesn't matter at all for dumping. Use the plugin lidnariq suggests.
I dumped it. It does not work. Anybody want to see the file?
I'll take a look at it and see if I can help you out.
Pm me for my email. Thanks.
I dumped my retail copy using JF-16 plugin:
http://bootgod.dyndns.org:7777/profile.php?id=4038 which works fine. Check the PCB on the database, does the the prototype use the same hardware as mine?
He did successfully dump it. He either forgot or didn't know that his iNES header had the wrong mapper number. I corrected that for him. However when trying to play the dump on emulators I noticed that most emulators for the mapper used assume mapper controlled 1 screen mirroring and not the Holy Diver mapper controller H/V mirroring. They probably use a hash to detect Holy Diver. This is an issue where two different board setups use the same mapper number.
