THIS SEEMS LIKE A LONG STORY...BUT ITS WORTH A FEW MINUTES FOR AN APPRECIATIVE COLLECTOR...So just before last christmas (2007), my friend and I took a detour from our holiday shopping to stop to go to the local "exchange".  I'm sure everyone in the lower 48 has exchanges or an equivilant where people come to pawn their old or unwanted electronics for pennies on the dollar.  Well, after finding nothing great, my friend and I left into the bitter cold winter night and passed a mother and her early teen son walking into the store with a huge box of nes games!! We kept walking, and talking about what treasures might be in that mysterious box, but didn't turn around right away...well something just told me that i needed to see what was in that box and I knew that the Dbags working there would give them squatt, so we left the car and made our way back into th store.  Well, Ive been seen there quite a bit buying old games, so when we went back into the store, I went to the back and my friend hung around up front (who knows little about nes games) to see if he could hear any of the games being read aloud.  He comes back to find me in about 5 minutes and says "I think they said like 'King neptune' something or other, or 'moon man'..."  my heart started to race as i made my way to the front of the store...I got there as soon as the doosh nozzle behind the counter told the heart broken son and his mother that there was nothing of value in the box and that the most they could give them was about $7!!!! Thats when I saw that this grinch of an employee had two blue carts sitting on an adjacent counter and out of the box (probably ready to go on eBay that same night)...I could see this was my time to strike and i approached the woman saying "Excuse me mam', are these your games?"..."why yes they are" she replied..."I collect nintendo games and I would gladly pay more for your box of games than this store will ever give you"...the employees were a little stunned.  I gave her the money to purchase a Wii game ($20) that her son came to buy, and after taking my box to the car I was amazed!!! there were about 35 nes games, 8-10 snes games, and about 4 nes controllers!! These werent 10 copies of GOLF either...King neptunes adventure, Moon ranger, and gradius, to name a few...total i added like 25 new games to my collection...made a kids christmas wishes come true, and stuck it to those greedy Exchange pricks...ho ho ho bitches!!!

Good find but also a good way to get banned from the store :/ I kiss ass at my local 'exchange' as you put it. And whenever I see someone I want to deal with I talk outside the store. Are you still friendly with the guys in the store or do they give you the cold shoulder now?

There are a lot of new employees since then who are none the wiser to this incident, but the balding D-bag still works there...he gives me a cold glare every now and then but hopefully he learned a valuable lesson...as i said...his store usually sucks anyways because he pulls stuff like this all the time...gives people $7 for a large box of good games, puts all the 3-d worldrunners and track and fields on the shelves and sells the rest online...its ruining a good game collecting source really...:'-(

LOL there is a guy here in town like that, runs a 2nd hand games, videos, dvd, cd type store always rips people off just as bad or worse than dude above. Anyways my buddy was in there and guy tries to do the same thing, give a little kid like $5 for a SNES and NES and a bunch of games like MTPO etc.... Anyways my buddy says I'll buy those from you for way more than this store will give you. Anyways long story short buddy bought them and is now banned for life from the store. However there's a FUN little twist to this tale. Buddy has a yard sale a few months later and puts video games in the ad. Sale opens at 8AM duche store owner shows up at 7AM and obvioulsy doesn't remember buddies face as he tries to get in early to buy all the video games. So my buddy says sale doesn't open until 8 AM and duche goes back to sit in car and wait. Anyways this lady, who is notorious in town for buying video games at yard sales, comes up at like 7:45 and grabs the video games and duche comes running up saying no way I was waiting for those. Lady knocks him to the ground and my buddy sold the games to her before 8AM... LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SWEET!!! I hate it when Pawnshops take advantage of game sellers, there is a pawn afew towns over that has a worker tha hordes games, he dosent sell them he just keeps tehm and tries to sell them to other resellers for Ebay prices. thankfully he only knows of semi rares. He had mo over to look at them, and he has stacks of all the Marios/Contras/FFVII..ect, but nothing Super Rare.

Here in town the owner is cool, I can buy something from a customer in store as long as i slide the owner afew bucks. That saves him from selling the 5 good games in a lot and sitting on the rest forever.

Old aunts used to come up to me at weddings, poking me in the ribs and cackling, telling me, "You're next." They stopped after I started doing the same thing to them at funerals.

I like how these dudes don't care about CDs or VHS and will have them out for like a buck apiece, but they guard VG like they're all holy grails, every one.

You can make more off of media than you can on VG just because there's so much of it, if you educate yourself you can make a killing. Some people prefer VHS for a lot of older movies. Just like some hi-fi guys swear by analog.

It's just easy for them I guess because there are so many price guides for VG but not only is media a massive effort but no easy price guide exists.

But there's like 20x+ more media that goes through the average second-hand shop than VG. It would stand to reason even if you get a nose for it, you don't even have to be an expert to figure out that old horror movies and classic rock CD's and stuff are gonna get a premium.

Yeah I did this a few years back for a PS1. They would give her €14. She went to the car after the PS1, then I rushed outside to give her €20 for the whole lot. It was a PS1 + 2gamepads, it was chipped and had 40+games.

Great find btw!

Best way to do this so you don't get banned from these stores is to get in good with the employees.  I have had situations where I watched a local pawn buy a bunch of N64 games for $.25 each, as soon as people selling the games left the store, one of the store employees motioned over for me to go through and pick out the ones I wanted for my regular price, $3.00 each.

I've got a deal with this particular shop, no matter what the game is, as long as isn't for current or last generation systems, it's $3.00 unless I buy a bunch, then it's usually cheaper.

Yeah, there making $2.75 a game in this situation, but I am still getting a good deal for good titles.  They have to operate somehow.

i've done this at a couple stores before and just like xtremegamer...i've gotten to know some of the employees...so at least it didn't seem that i offered a better price for the games (at the front counter none the less)

Yeah, I'm one of those lucky types that know the employees at the local GameStop, as well... Two of the guys are guys I went to elementary school with *years* ago (and surprisingly, they recognized me rather readily when I saw them for the first time in 10+ years), one of the other two was a college student at the same time my mother was.
