I think we should leave the rules as they are. The Mousers at Baxter Stockman are not the only enemies you can farm for points in the game. In stage 6 on the expressway, you can fight an infinite number of motorcycle Foot Soldiers once they appear. When fighting Baxter, it's ok to destroy Mousers that become a threat to you, but no one should be solely focusing on Mousers. Everyone should try to defeat Baxter as quickly as possible. Also, there are several other things that can impact your score in this game:

1. If you deflect an object back at an enemy, you will not gain a point (ex. a Foot Soldier throws a sewer lid at you and you hit it back at him and destroy him, you will not gain a point)

2. There are some objects in the game you can hit for an extra point. If you don't hit them, then you obviously won't get the point.

3. There are a couple spots in the game where you can bypass some enemies. There are some missiles in stage 3 you can avoid and some freezing spray canisters in stage 10 you can skip over.

4. Shredder. He only clones himself so many times (I believe it's 13 times) so it is possible to defeat him before you exhaust his supply of clones.

My NES collection count: 757 games (16 to go for a full set)

Latest Purchase(s): Snow Brothers

the least amount of points is a good idea actually, please consider it! There's really no way to tell if the winner killed a "fair" amount of mousers/bikers (whatever that means). I killed Krang and got 730 points while avoiding everything you mentioned (I only killed like 3-4 mousers, avoided all the extra points, and used the object thing as well as I could). I bet you that it will become a nuisance if we leave the rules as they are.

I think that the "least amount, or farthest" rule will reflect better our skill, than the original rules. For instance, if I kill the right amount of mousers to cover for whatever I missed, plus an extra, how will you tell? Maybe someone else will do the same, plus a little bit more... etc. In the other case, it's actually a challenge to kill less mousers, and to use the objects to earn less points.

I dunno. I guess the rules are fine either way. I just personally hate that Baxter battle because I feel guilty killing him slowly for Mousers when he's normally so easy to beat. Normally, I would just knock him out before he drops more than a handful of Mousers and move on.

Unfortunately, it's just a huge flaw in the game.

So me beating Krang will be considered less because of low score, than bimmy's and rdrunner? In that case tell me please, so I can change focus on the "extra" enemies and objects. I'll do my best not to farm.

Bimmy is stiff about not changing rules on this one, so lets respect his decision for this week.

The rules are posted for all 6 games at the beginning of the block. I review all games and all the rules right away so I know what is going on. Maybe others should start looking ahead so they can "advise" any rule changes that might be an issue...then again...Bimmy works real hard to put this together for all of us each week and we should respect his rules, play the games and have fun.
After all, having fun IS the reason we do this every week...

Yes!  Just nailed a deathless run!

Thanks Bimmy for pointing out all of the scoring locations.  I had most of them before, but forgot that about the inanimate objects being worth points.  I was avoiding them before because I didn't want to accidentally kill anyone with them.

Anyway, I'm happy with this run, so I'm done now.  Time to get ready for tomorrow's Mario Bros "Bro-Off" marathon/fundraiser!  (see blog for details)  Wish me luck!

There was really nothing wrong with the rules to begin with, and you also make a good point.. Thanks to Bimmy Lee for organizing this contest. i am having a ton of fun playing a different game every week and it gives me something to keep in the nintendo and just pick up and play when i have a free moment during the week and see how high i can get the score up to before the weekend. It also gives me an excuse to pick up games i dont yet have, this week i acquired turtes and jackal specifically for the contest. this contest thread is alot of fun and there is no need to over anylize every rule. Just play the games and have fun that is what it is really all about!!

Damn, I forgot to post my score. But I doubt it would even get in the top 5, as I always died at Rocksteady. I had 69 points, btw.

hmmm... I wasn't really aware of the new mechanics. I knew vaguely about there being blocks, and champions per genre.

Well, I'll do my best to beat your asses this block! I have Ninja Gaiden in my bag already!
