Played a couple games, entering in my score, but ran into a slight problem, my first death was by Piro, the first boss, but problem is, score is not shown on screen during boss battles, I ended up dying twice by him before beating him and moving on, but immediately paused the game once I got to the stage on the next world and took my pic, don't know if bosses give points at all though because I didn't make note of what I had prior to the boss fight, but entering in what I have anyway til someone can find out.

I always loved the cutsceen at the end of Candy Land. Blew my mind when I was a kid. The one with the flashing screen and the balls that fly at your face. Definitely seizure inducing.
Couple things I do is: Skip the 1 ups, normally not worth the danger and not worth much points. You get more points by finishing faster I think. Also use the pause screen to think about the level. This helps quite a bit with hammer levels.
