Hello everyone and welcome to the latest installment of the Weekly Contests!  This week's game is going to be Spy Hunter.  Here are the rules:

• Play until Game Over
• Looping of the game will be allowed for now, but if it looks like it could be a problem, we will allow one loop only
• Be very quick with your picture!  You only have a few seconds after you get a Game Over to take it.  If you think you will have a hard time securing your score, I would recommend either recording your run and pausing the video to take your picture or securing your score as you are playing the game.  The game can be paused by pressing A on controller 2.
• Highest score wins
• Participation: 10,000
• GENRE: Arcade

The contest ends Sunday, 7/16/17 at 11 PM NA time.  Your user name MUST be written or typed on a piece of paper and be in the picture for your score to be valid.  The entire TV screen, or computer monitor if you are playing on an emulator, MUST be in the picture for the score to be valid.  No partial screenshots will be considered or accepted.  No screenshots by hitting "print screen" on a computer will be allowed.  You must take a picture of your computer monitor.  There may be instances where this will be acceptable, but it will be at the discretion of myself and the contest organizers.  Also, the use of turbo controllers is forbidden, as well as any cheat codes, Game Genies, slow motion functions, or save states if playing on an emulator.  Also, we will only be using NTSC systems for the contests.  The use of PAL systems will NOT be allowed.  Good luck everyone and have fun

My everdrive isn't here yet. And it has been years since I have beaten this game!
This will be a bad week for me! With luck, I will get a top 8 score.

Don't think I've ever played the NES port of this. Should be interesting!

Hopefully I can get some game runs in this week.
I didn't think this game would be as bad as having the runs.

This game actually did cause me to throw a controller at my TV when I was younger. Will see if I am able to resist the urge this week  





 

I leave for my trip on Wednesday morning, although I'll be taking my psp with me I hope to get participation before then. As for a drawing this week? I might have something. For all you kicklenuts there is something very big on the horizon. Once I return the state of Nintendo age will change forever.

In what way does it make sense to have A on controller 2 be the pause button? In what way does it make sense for your score to disappear after a few seconds (no high score screen, no displaying the top score) in an arcade type game where score is important? What the hell were the game designers smoking?

After two shots of rum, I managed to get "in the zone" and get a decent score, but I am done for the week.
With some booze and going slower, I managed to do a bit better. Even looped the game. But I will have a really hard time even doubling this score.  

This is not going well...
I will need booze and to not play this one after working arms to get a more decent score.
Hopefully my everdrive will be delivered till Wednesday so I can try to play this one on real hardware. Less input lag will make a huge difference there.

Don't you have a question and answer session to attend to? It was disappointing that the idea of a crossover never came to be.

They had to use the second controller as the first one had all the buttons used up. Dunno about the rest.
 

The start button is unused, AFAIK.
 

It summons the weapons van, just like in the arcade. Only works under certain conditions, though.
 

I just brought up the game's manual online and you're right. I did not know that. Thank you.

I thought that it was just an inexplicably horrible game design choice.


 

Honestly, despite its shortcomings, this might have been the best home version of the game until the Midway compilations came out.

Remember to only shoot/bump the dark blue cars. You get penalized for killing the other cars and motorcycles with a temporary score freeze.

Also try to get an extra life by getting 10,000 points before the initial timer runs out. Try to go as fast as you can for more points.
 

The main problem is that this game requires too much twitch reaction.
That doesn't sit well with my essential tremor. Alcohol helps with it for a few hours, so I will only have a chance to get okay scores after I have my night shot of rum.
This will definitely not be my week.
