Hello everyone and welcome to the latest installment of the Weekly Contests!  This week’s game is going to be Tetris 2.  Here are the rules:

  • Play on “1 Player”
  • Set speed to Low
  • Start on Round 1
  • Play until you lose
  • Take your picture when the game asks if you want to "try again"
  • Highest score wins
  • GENRE: Puzzle

The contest ends Sunday, 5/24/15 at 11 PM NA time.  Your user name MUST be written or typed on a piece of paper and be in the picture for your score to be valid.  The entire TV screen, or computer monitor if you are playing on an emulator, MUST be in the picture for the score to be valid.  No partial screenshots will be considered or accepted.  No screenshots by hitting "print screen" on a computer will be allowed.  You must take a picture of your computer monitor.  There may be instances where this will be acceptable, but it will be at the discretion of myself and the contest organizers.  Also, the use of turbo controllers is forbidden, as well as any cheat codes, Game Genies, slow motion functions, or save states if playing on an emulator.  Also, we will only be using NTSC systems for the contests.  The use of PAL systems will NOT be allowed.  Good luck everyone and have fun

My NES collection count: 757 games (16 to go for a full set)

Haven't seen this game talked about or played in a long time, I'll look forward to giving an attempt at it this week if I have time. If I remember correctly getting the flashing block clears all blocks of that color, although I'm not sure if it gives you points for them. Probably better to get all the blocks individually for max points.

On a more serious note, I've played EarthBound today for so long, I feel all tense and mentally worn out.
Then you called your mother and felt better?

This is my first attempt and first time ever playing this game. It's definitely a departure from the Tetris that I know.

You are awarded a point bonus depending on the number of moves you make and what level you are on, which far outweighs clearing each level entirely.  So aim for the bottom!

Yay, it's Dr. Mario easy mode!

On a serious note, what do you guys think is more lucrative? I'm not good enough to get consistent low move clear bonuses, but clearing blocks in general gives you points that, just like Dr. Mario, multiply when you chain them. Seems like the big scores this week are going to be from players that point rack each stage vigorously. I spent an hour and a half last night playing this way, it's a real time sink.

Seems like a terrible waste of time. Yeah, you could technically max out the score on round 1 if you played it for a few days. Unlike Dr. Mario, you get points for every 3 or more you match up.

Obviously this game plays more like dr mario than tetris , I just played like tetris and hoped for the best. It gave me the same headache dr mario does, tetris is hard enough but tetris with colors is just a whole nother section of the brain.

I think grinding the levels would be a waste for the most part. I guess you could grind level 1 for a long time and fluff your score, but that would be extremely tedious and boring. Plus the game gradually increases in speed the longer you take.

And, I could be wrong, but I don't think the chains are worth anything near what they are on Dr. Mario.  I was kinda wondering about the 16,000 point score on Round 1, until I realized you get points every time pieces are eliminated.  Must be extremely boring...

Isn't it 30 points per clear?

I've only played twice, but yeah, 30 points sounds right. I don't know if you get more for 4 or 5 in a row, but you get thousands if you get the bonus. Sure the game gets harder as you go, but 30 points a clear would take about a month to hit 999,990.

The most I got for a clear was 26k. I saw a max out run where someone got 49k. And this game has an ending. Goes to level 80.

Yeah guys don't worry about point grinding in the levels at all. Clear levels as quickly as you can! Those point bonuses really add up.

I don't feel like posting my score yet, but I'll tease that I made it to Level 34 so far.

My first attempt.  This game takes way too long!  haha.  I got a little too fancy with the last game.  I was a bit bored and got nailed for it!

Point bonus is for sure the way to go.  Don't be grinding for points.

As long as the game is exactly the same as the NES version of Tetris 2, it shouldn't be a problem.

I agree. This was probably my first ever play of the game. I must say, not the biggest fan. I want to "tetris" but it don't play like that.
