Hello everyone and welcome to the latest installment of the Weekly Contests!  This week’s game is going to be Captain Skyhawk.  Here are the rules:
 
 

• Play until Game Over.  When you get a Game Over, allow the continue timer to run out to get to the High Score entry screen
• Take your picture on the High Score entry screen
• No point racking allowed
• On missions 2 and 6, you will only be allowed 3 passes to drop the supplies into the supply boxes.  If you miss them on your third pass, your attempt will end.  You must stop playing and take your picture regardless of how many lives you have in reserve.  Anyone suspected of trying to point rack on these levels will have their score disqualified
• Highest score wins
• GENRE: Shooter/Shoot ‘Em Up

 
 
The contest ends Sunday, 8/16/15 at 11 PM NA time.  Your user name MUST be written or typed on a piece of paper and be in the picture for your score to be valid.  The entire TV screen, or computer monitor if you are playing on an emulator, MUST be in the picture for the score to be valid.  No partial screenshots will be considered or accepted.  No screenshots by hitting "print screen" on a computer will be allowed.  You must take a picture of your computer monitor.  There may be instances where this will be acceptable, but it will be at the discretion of myself and the contest organizers.  Also, the use of turbo controllers is forbidden, as well as any cheat codes, Game Genies, slow motion functions, or save states if playing on an emulator.  Also, we will only be using NTSC systems for the contests.  The use of PAL systems will NOT be allowed.  Good luck everyone and have fun

It has been a while since I played this, but isn't point racking possible on two of the stages where you have to destroy the enemy bases? If I recall correctly, they have an endless number of planes you can shoot down. As long as you don't destroy the base, they'll keep coming.

Yeah, when your at the base the enemy jet continues to respawn. This game was probably tough to come up with rules for. I played the shit out of this game way back when. Top gun wishes it was Captain Skyhawk.

Idk if there's really a better way to play it either because a low- score would really make it alot less fun.

Ah, I just played the game a bit and I forgot that you have a limited amount of fuel. While you can spend quite a bit of time point racking, your fuel will eventually run out if you don't clear the stage.

Time to pull out my flight joystick for the nes. awwww yiss.

You're totally right, this wasn't easy to choose rules for this one. It is the price that comes with trying different games for the contest, sometimes we want to try stuff and see how it comes out.

I'll replay the game tonight for further testing and clarification. Everyone is welcomed to give their input to make sure we have a solid set of rules, cause this game need some restrictions to work out as a contest.
