@TheOne - people around here don't know how to treat other members, especially new ones.  Your best bet is to get bit and unscrew the game and show the board.  For whatever reason SE because of it's rarity turns people into douche bags in seconds

I get that fakes are made, repros and what not, but a new guy comes in and people are ready to tie him to a stake instead of waiting and seeing how it turns out. I guess that's the price you pay for an in-demand game but it doesn't excuse making a guy feel uncomfortable enough where he doesn't want to be apart of the community. That is totally unacceptable.

This guilty until proven innocent bullshit has to stop. Driving people away from here because of your own skepticism is childish at best. It's sad but to get people to shut up he's going to have to show the board, but when that happens - then what? What's the next step from there? Does the board's authenticity get called into question? Maybe he's a jerk for buying it off an old lady?

Knock it off.

Yes it's true that SE tends to bring out the worst in people for whatever reason, but it works both ways. We have plenty of examples of people attempting to pass of fakes as "finds", that is why these are often met with skepticism. Sorry if the fact that some people would like to see more definitive proof before getting overly excited hurts some others feelings.

Doesn't bother me or hurt my feelings at all that people wanna prove its authenticity, its just they way people go about it, and they way they talk to other members that bothers me. I have my thoughts on the cart that im keeping to myself until the truth comes out, and the truth may not come out depending on what the OP decides to do.  I would think he would wanna authenticate it if he did infact pay a decent sum of money for it, but if hes happy with it, convinced that its real, and not trying to sell it, then he can do as he wishes with it.

It has been said in several other situations and I think it should be said here too, I think everyone should calm down and not make accusations OR any more posts until all of the evidence is shown. OP, I think you have realized by now that the only way to settle this is to open the cart and take some detailed pictures and post them here. You can do this and prove all of the naysayers wrong or do nothing else and many people will still doubt the validity of the game. If you want, I will personally send you a game bit free of charge so you can open it up and post some pictures, just PM me and I will get it out to you. I really hope this is real, if it is, it is truly a once in a lifetime find, I wish you the best of luck!

There's nothing wrong with getting definitive proof, but to have people act like assholes toward a new member to the point where he considers leaving the site for good is pretty reprehensible.

I'm not going to single out a specific person but there were some pretty terrible posts in this thread, and the fact that there's an overwelming negativity toward a guy because he found something good in wild, might discourage lurkers and new members who read something like this to go elsewhere.

I'm reserving judgment on the guy until a final say.  I get that fakes have been put forth but that is NO excuse to treat someone like a scammer and calling his ethics into question until there's concrete proof to judge one way or another.

I don't feel like reading the entire thread again, but I don't think one person has accused the OP of anything. I don't understand how this has been so hostile?

The OP doesn't have to prove anything and can believe it's real if that's what floats his boat. Just like other people can think it's not legit if they so desire.

Talking shit about a mod makes the process much quicker.

At both you and Pale:  Slow your roles a bit guys.  You're talking about a very expensive and desirable item.  You're talking about a member that has posted in the brewery with interest in reproductions.  You're talking about a guy who has no problem snapping digital shots of SE screen caps, but not taking a single up close picture of the label or the end label.

Skepticism is healthy and helps protect communities from would-be scammers.  Do you guys really think that anyone here is hoping that this guy doesn't have a legit score?

I've been a member of this site for 5 years, and in that time we've grown to 8,500+ members.  We're not scaring people away in droves.  If you don't like the way we run things I'm sure there is plenty of stuff you can chat about with the vbender guys on the DP forums.  If you like it here, by all means, hang around.  If you have concerns about moderation, PM an Admin and see if you can get the issue resolved.

I tend to agree with Shaun in this instance. It can be a sketch situation and I understand the amount of fakes, but some of these responses are harsh. My first thought was grats to the OP. Good for him. After that does it really affect us any? Asking for proof is all good in my book but based on some of these replies no wonder the OP replied the way he did. If he decides to open it up cool, if not, who cares. Move on.

Maybe a mod should lock the thread until the OP contacts a mod about what he wants to do. No use in going round and round on the subject.

This comment is directed to every cart collector on this board. We are now at a point in this hobby where you should assume that every SE is fake until there is definitive proof otherwise. That is the point that some of us are making, and has nothing to do with the OP.

It happens in all hobbies. Would you assume a Babe Ruth signed baseball without a certificate of authenticity is real? Would you assume a Michael Jordan rookie card in ungraded shape is real? The #1 items in a hobby become so saturated with fakes that you automatically assume fake until there is convincing evidence otherwise.

If you think NES carts aren't there yet, or will never be there, you are in denial. The sooner you start taking proactive measures to protect and educate yourself, the better off you will be. Or you can just assume everything is real and hope for the best. Ignorance is bliss they say.

I'm keeping my opinion to myself, for the record, as it won't affect my life one way or the other. I'm not here to insult anybody. The overall point missed here is dude posted here to get a collective pat on the back from NA, but has refused to authenticate it and has gotten the inevitable hassle that comes with it. Anybody who spends any time here is going to know that. I don't give a crap if the board is shown or not (again, I've got more important things to worry about), but then this thread didn't need to be made. We had somebody just a couple weeks ago do the same exact thing with a high end cart and got outed. The skepticism is pretty cut and dry whether it offends the sensitive type or not. Also, we have an official SE thread because every time it gets brought up, there is a fight somehow. Sure some people got a bit overzealous and there are quite a few I don't necessarily agree with, but that's exactly what internet nerds do. People do that here everyday about tons of things.

My last post was much harsher than I intended. Pale Horse is always on the lookout for would-be scammers (and it is much appreciated) and I misread what Remedy was getting at.

Just wanted to let people know that when the mods do or allow something to happen, we do it with good intentions. We hope that we keep this place safe, and our members happy. Sometimes we drop the ball for sure, but we really do try. That's the real reason why we do what we do.

I am still willing to meet a complete stranger to verify. If OP doesn't "trust me" cuz the internet is scary and all people on it are crazy folks, well then... people can take that for what they want.

@JD - yes, happily married to two dogs and a woman. they are cute, little gay dogs.

Great post, one of the best in the entire thread.  And I find it even harder to believe it's real now if the guy takes the time to post two pics of screen caps instead of a single picture of the game itself.  Even if he doesn't have a security bit he could still take a close up pic of the label.  Also seeing the thread where he was asking about making repro's a few months back doesn't make me feel good either but I'm not saying he made this, I'd have no way of proving that.  All I said earlier was that "douchebags" at the PRGE show where this guy lives were selling fakes with no labeling or anything stating they were fakes.  Period.  So in this guys home market there are many fakes out there.  Period.  So it stands to reason that it's possible some have slipped into collections.

Oh and I don't understand saying he's afraid to meet people from the internet when he met the lady to get this off the internet.  Also he said he was at PRGE and met lots of people from NA, well one of them had to be Josh since he ran the NA booth the entire show.  Meet up with Josh in a public place, or get a screwdriver and open it up, shouldn't have security screws.  If we're wrong and it's legit we'll all throw tons of congratulations your way as it would be a truely great find.

I agree with opening up the cart and proving if it's legit or not. It's a simple request and can be accomplished in 2 minutes. Ignoring the questions just proves that it is a repro IMO.

This thread has gotten very feisty since i last visited. No reason to get yourself banned from this great forum over this. Everybody be cool.

Reading through his responses a bit more, it's really hard not to doubt your credibility. Not wanting to meet Qix, photos of the opening title but not any more of the actual game, having no idea how to open up a game except a hammer.

For reals, this is ridic. With all this pressure I'd try and prove my credibility immediately. Obviously, if you know/think it's real, you would want to confirm. Thus confirming, you would want be able to tell the people who doubt you they can go fuck themselves with confirmed pictures of the board.

I don't get it.

Like Jone said, with high priced items and how seemingly easy it appears it is to make repros nowadays, something like this is always assumed to be fake unless proven otherwise. Your lack of effort to try and disprove us only makes you look worse and makes this undoubtedly fake.

It's pretty easy to tell why people are accusatory. We're all terribly confused as to how you're going about this.
