Hello everyone and welcome to the latest installment of the Weekly Contests!  Bimmy-Dude here and I need your help with something very important this week.  I need you to grab your skateboards and head on down to the local skate park with me where we need to take care of this punk called Lester.  He seems to think he owns the park and thinks he's the best skateboarder since Tony Hawk!  Let's show him he's wrong!  But be careful out there.  That Lester is one dangerous dude.  He fights dirty and is bound to have a few tricks up his sleeve!  You only have two options when it comes to facing Lester: Skate or Die!  Here are the rules:

• Play in Compete Mode
• You must play Freestyle, Jam, and Race modes
• Add all three scores together to get your final score
• Take a picture of all 3 scores in the trophy menu
• Highest score wins
• GENRE: Sports

The contest ends Sunday, 6/15/14 at 11 PM NA time.  Your user name MUST be in the picture for your score to be valid.  The entire TV screen, or computer monitor if you are playing on an emulator, MUST be in the picture for the score to be valid.  No partial screenshots will be considered or accepted.  No screenshots by hitting "print screen" on a computer will be allowed.  You must take a picture of your computer monitor.  There may be instances where this will be acceptable, but it will be at the discretion of myself and the contest organizers.  Also, the use of turbo controllers is forbidden, as well as any cheat codes, Game Genies, or save states if playing on an emulator.  Also, we will only be using NTSC systems for the contests.  The use of PAL systems will NOT be allowed.  Good luck everyone and have fun

Lol. Good, I'm not the only one! When I was a kid I always thought the best part of this game was going to the skate shop and talking to the guy with the mohawk. I knew some kids that loved this game though and I could never figure out why...

This game needs more love! It's a really fun!

I got some enjoyment out of the sequel, but only from the half pipe.  I got a kick out of all the goofy animations that happened when you screwed up.  Bowling pins popping up if you fell behind the ramp, cracking into multiple pieces if you landed incorrectly sometimes, etc.

This is roughly as good as I can do without adding more risk to the Freestyle & Race or grinding Lester for points in the Jam, and I don't want to do either of those things. As you can see I already lose ~3000 points if I make a mistake so adding more risk would just piss me off. I could probably sit here and try to squeeze out a couple hundred more using these routes but that sounds really boring too.

This game must have bad controls because I can't get my skater to do anything.

For which event? All of them?

I am confused on taking the picture. Do I need one or three?

Just one since the high score screen shows them all at once. But....if you turn off the game and come back and do better in one event you can take a picture of that and post it along with your original picture....like the way I did it.

Nice score here, you surely know the art of the street board.

I'm not a big fan of the Jam event, cause everything comes down to violently abuse of Lester. Someone posted a score of 30k for the Jam last contest, WTF? The Freestyle and the Race are 100 % technical, really well made skateboard events, I just feel the Jam scoring system isn't sound compared to the these other two. I wouldn't mind dropping off the Jam next time and maybe find a way to add the High Jump in the lot instead.

Is it just me or is it impossible to accelerate goofy foot? I've accidentally selected it on the jam and I've been unable to accelerate at all.

Edit: Of course as soon as I post this, I find out that you have to accelerate by pressing up instead of A?

Yeah, the Jam is pretty awful for score runs. You could theoretically max the score if you wanted.

In regards to my score, I've left 5000 or more points on the table in Freestyle & Downhill, just because I don't feel like working too hard. I'm sure you guys will have no problem beating it.

Haha, low effort, but I think you'll still stay in the top 5 scores at the end of the week (if the Jam event doesn't get out of control). You would win if you weren't such a lazy ass

Hey, you get what you pay for with me.

Well I can't seem to make my guy go faster in the race or jam. and he doesn't seem to want to turn and in Freestyle I always fall and can't seem to land anything. Maybe I just bad at this game.

So I was doing the jam trying to trip up the other dude as much as possible for points. I got into a situation where I was standing still in the middle of the alley with the other guy constantly respawning right behind me and immediately tripping up. The points stopped racking up at 34,600. I don't know if we should call this cheating or what. Maybe just add it to the rules?

I'm totally fine with not posting this one to count to my total, but I'm also not going to argue if it's allowed!

Yeah, this is exactly what OSG and I were talking about, the possibility of this occuring makes the whole Jam event pretty pointless.

Personally, I think the Jam should have been ignored for this contest, but I want to know what you guys playing would prefer. Please, voice your opinion on the subject (you included Matt, naturally).

Well everyone could get the glitch(?) if they really tried a few times. I'd say to add "no farming Lester" to the rules, but how do you define farming? You could probably move the whole time and still max out the score by tripping him up enough before the finish.

From the other 2 scores posted so far, 10k seems to be a good score, with my 8k being a bit sub-par (and after only playing the game for an hour). I don't think it'll make much difference if we just strike out the jam.

Someone that posted a 30kish score in JAM 2 years ago said this :

Yeah I let it run a few more knockdowns after it capped to see what happened. Stopped at 34,600. I'm pretty sure I also ran over one of those 100 point cans on the way down and did not get any additional points.

And yes, it was a very narrow area, just over a speed bump. I did not jump though, he just ran into me. 500 points each time.
