Space Jockey is in for tier 3 in place of ag1052. EoTN will not be able to participate and a last second participant is pending to replace him.  Still have not heard back from guillavoie.

Wow,lots of moving pieces here. Kind of surprised with Guillavoie. I remember last tourney he was unable to post an NG 2 score. Maybe lightning striking twice? Edit: This has got to be the difficult version of the arcade port as I don't remember the arcade being this cheap and numerous with the bullets until in the way later rounds. Still pissed off at my score. I'd rather not post one at all if I can't improve as this is an embarassment.

Guillavoie where are you?

Guil?  Hope you're still in this thing.  Wouldn't be the same without you!

Gutsman, not sure if this is the "difficult" version of the arcade or not.  I personally always found the arcade to be harder.  On NES I can take out almost everything with my double fighter as the enemies come onto the screen.  Not so much on arcade, where they come in a lot faster.

It seems like it is....that or my skills have eroded that much. :/ I swear I don't remember the enemies in the arcade dropping as many bullets as the nes version does. Guess I'll need to fire iip some mame to find out.

That's pretty good for a first score. I used to be able to put up some really high scores on the Namco Museum version for the Playstation, but that was over 16 years ago. I'd be happy if I could break a million by the end of the week.

Well here's my score. Some work needs too be done. I really do like Galaga though.

Tier 1 has been reduced to 7 competitors since guillavoie did not confirm his tournament spot. Since there are only 7 competitors in Tier 1, only one person from that tier will be eliminated this week.

My NES collection count: 757 games (16 to go for a full set)

Thanks Doug! I used to play the hell out of that version. I could put up at least 300-400k just about every time I played. If I used the no enemies shoot trick,I could play until I got tired. A million points is probably not going to happen for me considering how little I've played it up until now. I'd be happy with 500k.

My personal best on the Playstation version was 3.5 million, but I doubt I could get anywhere near that now. Galaga was my favorite game as a kid and I used to play it at the arcade in town for hours a day. I played that version just as much when it came out since it was like having the arcade version at home, but I haven't put any serious time in since I had the Namco Museum for the PS2 ten years ago. I gave the NES one a quick try this afternoon and I'm pretty rusty.

Same here. Haven't played that version since probably 06-07. Can't remember what my personal best was. I do remember as a kid my mom leaving me at a Galaga cab at Sears and I played until she was done with her shopping and came and got me. I don't remember exactly how old I was....maybe 8... or what my score was....but I do remember getting past level 50 and thinking of how awesome it was and wondering how many levels were in the game.

Nice score there, bearcat-doug! I have since beaten my old score and taken a picture but I am going to continue playing to see if I can better that one. Don't want to flood the thread with 50 posts of me improving my score if I can avoid it lol.

I like how many are throwing scores up early. I don't work at my main job for the next two days,so I'll get some time today and tomorrow to try to improve my score.

My brother is the Galaga player in the family (mainly on the 7800), so personally I'm not that great at it, plus to be honest, I haven't played much of it at all. I have a lot of free time this week, so we'll see. I'm just going to do my best and hope I'm not one and done for the tourny.

Confession #1: I've never played Galaga prior to about an hour ago.

Confession #2: Space shooters and I go together like orange juice and cool mint toothpaste.

I really plan to work to get this score higher because it's currently on the terrible side of things.  I did experience a small moment of joy when I beat the game's preset 30,000 high scrore

Mint toothpaste orange juice is awesome. Just add a couple of globs and stir for some citrusy minty goodness! Get your vitamin C and fight cavities!

It took me longer than I thought just to get that. If there were time machines, my 6 year old self would travel to the present and make fun of me for how bad my skills have fallen off.

I second this. I feel embarassed that I'm having trouble getting past 200k. I haven't fired up mame yet to check, but I swear this version is harder than the standard arcade version. It seems that the bullets are more abundant and shot at the last second.

That's how I felt when I played this in one of the previous tournaments. There is definitely something different about this version. The arcade is easier.
