Hello everyone and welcome to the latest installment of the weekly contests.  This week's game is sure to be an island hopping adventure of fun and plenty of challenge.  That's right, it's time for some Adventure Island.  Here are the rules:

• Play until Game Over
• Take your picture on the title screen
• Highest score wins
• GENRE: Action/Platformer

The contest ends Sunday, 5/5/13 at 10 PM NA time.  Your user name MUST be in the picture for your score to be valid.  The entire TV screen, or computer monitor if you are playing on an emulator, MUST be in the picture for the score to be valid.  No partial screenshots will be considered or accepted.  No screenshots by hitting "print screen" on a computer will be allowed.  You must take a picture of your computer monitor.  There may be instances where this will be acceptable, but it will be at the discretion of myself and the contest organizers.  Also, the use of turbo controllers is forbidden, as well as any cheat codes, Game Genies, or save states if playing on an emulator.  Also, we will only be using NTSC systems for the contests.  The use of PAL systems will not be allowed.  Good luck everyone and have fun

Probably not the best to die in the first area, but I haven't played in a few years. I'll post another score later this week if I have time, but here's my initial score just in case I don't have time. Woo!

Sweet. I love Adventure Island!!! I can't see myself getting too high of a score, but I'll definitely give it a few cracks.

I'm in this time since I've got it on Virtual Console. Been a while since I played it, but hopefully I haven't gotten too rusty.

Actually own this game. Here's the best I could get right now, somewhere towards the end of level 3. too me a few tries to figure out how to get past those last two jumps in level 2...Dx

Leaderboard is all up to date and added some new games to the list of upcoming games. Also added a list of games that will be played in either one of the tournaments since the first one will be coming up in a couple months. Speaking of the first tournament, July 7 is when it will start and it will be a 3 week competition. The regular games will wrap up on June 30 for the first half of the year and there will be a 1 week hiatus until the tournament begins to get everything set up for that and also to contact everyone who will be participating. The second half of the year will pick back up on July 28 at the conclusion of the tournament. The second tournament will more than likely begin after Christmas and go into the first couple weeks of January.

Being the Hudson soft junkie i am, I will be participating this week!

Damn this game is tough. So much harsher than the two sequels on the NES, and will take some patience.

Def takes some patience in putting together a flawless run. Both of the runs i posted i screwed up and lost 2 lives in the exact same spot doing something dumb.

first score i posted i ran into a boulder that hops over the ledge in one of the early towers. lost a life only to go running balls out and do the exact same thing again in the exact same spot lol

then the second score i ran into a firepit that was on a downward sloping edge trying to snag the luscious fruit it was temtping me with, got too close and died. Only to go balls out again and try it again and lost another life lol

hint: dont get too close to the firepits when they are on a downward slope, you almost always run into them.

I'm a sucker for trying to speed run the game and it screws me up alot. But sometimes on the hovering platforms, you have to be fast or it will cost ya.

I know I can do better with more practice. Funny how I still remember where everything is. This is the only video game my mom liked (she hates video games) so it was a treat when she would play with us until all ours of the night when we were kids. Should give me some fond memories!
