Voilà!

SNES PowerPak Firmware v3.00 "MUFASA"

Installation instructions (copied from the Readme):
  1. Determine the current version of your firmware. You'll see the version number once you power up your SNES PowerPak. If it says, "Boot ROM v1.0X" (where X can be any number), then you have a version 1 firmware. If you spot the word "SIMBA" anywhere on the screen, then you have a version 2 firmware.
  2. Copy the contents of <this release's="" archive="" root="">/POWERPAK (sans the SAVES subfolder) to the POWERPAK directory on your CF card, replacing any existing file(s) (i.e., TOPLEVEL.BIT).
  3. Browse to /POWERPAK. Delete SI.MAP. Then, rename the SIvX.MAP file that matches your installed firmware number from step 1 (i.e., SIv1.MAP for a version 1 firmware, and SIv2.MAP for a version 2 firmware) to SI.MAP.
  4. Power on your SNES PowerPak, and follow the on-screen instructions.
  5. After the upgrade procedure has completed successfully, you can safely delete all *.TXT and *.MAP files from /POWERPAK.

Have fun!

I am real excited about this. I just tried to follow these instructions to the t, but when I powered it up after making the adjustments it said config file not found. I'm going to try again, I always appreciate your work. thanks

also, do I need to do anything with the src folder?

Short version: It's faster, smoother, more user-friendly, and fully themeable. :-)
Long version: Check Changes.txt.

Hmm, not sure what might have gone wrong. Don't forget that all *.TXT need to stay in place until after reflashing has completed successfully. Also, make sure you don't accidentally delete any LOG/CFG files at that point, which might happen if your Windows system hides file extensions and therefore you could just go by the file icons. If in doubt, just repeat step 2 (and only step 2!) from the instructions and report back if that fixes it.

The /src folder contains the sourcecode of the project, so no need to bother with that unless you're into SNES programming. ;-)

No problem at all. In case you own this awesome SNES accessory, then you might want to consider upgrading it using my firmware (which is unofficial, but in large parts based on bunnyboy's original code).

Great to hear that it works, thank you too! And … long live the SNES PowerPak!

PS: bunnyboy, if you happen to read this, please get in touch. Thanks!

Would there be any reason you can imagine that this new update wouldn't allow for game saves?  I am using the standard save files and I can't get it to load properly/save properly.  Any suggestions?  thank you

i've been messing around and troubleshooting with a few things. I don't think you can use the start button and the auto pick of your save file. Seems like if I pick the game and the save manually, it loads fine, but if I let the auto feature select for me, it does not.

EDIT-sorry for all the reposting.  Everytime I think I have it figured out, my game seems to erase again.  back to square one.

Some of the features:
  • Up to 56 characters per filename are displayed on the screen, making it easier to distinguish games/hacks with similar names.
  • A settings menu lets you change the PowerPak's configuration at any time.
  • The SPC player actually works.
  • A more stable user interface with more intuitive joypad button mapping.
  • Full theme support, i.e. with a bit of skill, you can customize the UI to your own liking. Or, just use any of the themes supplied within this release.
  • Better performance thanks to a unified software design that takes advantage of the SNES's 16-bit capabilities.
  • In-system update flashing.
  • ... and more!
Edit: Here's a pre-release screenshot of v3.00 in action (note that the theme was modified for the final release):

Here's another, showing off the potential of themes – this one's actually included in the release as a joke ...

@fpanichi, saving works just fine for me. Keep in mind that you have to do a "long reset" when you're finished playing to write your SRAM onto the CF card. Other than that, where do you store your SRM files, i.e. alongside your ROM files, or within the /POWERPAK/SAVES folder? Did you make sure that the size of any specific SRM file matches the size of the game's battery-backed RAM (2 KB, 8 KB, 32 KB, or whatever size the game requires)? Lastly, please check your card's filesystem for errors.

Hope you can get it to work!

Saving always worked great for me.  I do the long reset and write to the .srm file (from retrousb).  I used to keep my save files in a folder in the root, but I noticed that now the save folder within the powerpak directory is automatically pulled up, so I store them there now.

I have never changed the size before.  How would I even do that?

How can I check for errors?  I did that self check from the main menu and that came out okay.

Damn, I just can't get this worked out.  Thanks for any help.

I just checked the size of the .srm file I use and it says 627 bytes (again, the one from retrousb)

Okay, cool.

There are several ways to do this. I personally just load each ROM file up in an emulator once, and take the SRM file generated automatically.

That's good, but I was referring to a filesystem check. It depends on your OS how to do that. Under Windows, you'd want to right-click your CF card's drive letter, click on "Properties", "Tools", and then launch the error check (not the defrag thing).

Ah, so that's what's causing all the trouble. The file from Retrousb is zipped, so you can't use that as it is. If that has ever worked for you, then you were simply lucky. You have to unzip the file, then rename the unzipped 8KBsave.srm file so it matches your game file (e.g., zelda.srm if your game is zelda.smc).

Let me know if this helps!

You mean TMNT IV – Turtles in Time? The game works just fine for me. What SNES revision and CF card size & brand are you using? Also, have you upgraded to v3.00 or not?

Thanks!

If you want to try out the latest build, please download UPDATE.ROM from my brand-new GitHub-Repository. Just click on the "Raw" button to download the update ROM, put it in the /POWERPAK folder on your CF card (overwriting the existing file), then go to the PowerPak's settings menu, and select "Check for firmware update."

It would be great if as many people as possible could install and thoroughly test this build, especially the file browser (which is getting a major overhaul at the moment). Let me know if you encounter any irregularities (apart from the case of a hidden /POWERPAK dir and an otherwise empty root directory, which might cause glitches in the theme/SRAM browser).

Hi, I've installed your MUFASA firmware and it's awesome. But I've formatted the CF card and now always I get the error "Powerpak: File not found"

I backed up the CF to my hard drive, I copied the files back to the CF and keep getting the error.

Do you have any clue? Which files are necessary to copy to the CF?

Thanks in advance.

And here's another video with a small hardware update I performed on my revD cart:

Have fun!

I can't make a theme stick. It keeps going back to the MUFASA theme. Is there a way to change it permanently?

edit: nevermind, I watched the video and got my answer.  Press start in the settings menu to save everybody.

I'm sorry but I need help on the installation of this CFW. It states I should delete SI.MAP then rename SIvX.MAP but I don't see any SIvX.MAP anywhere on my POWERPAK directory. What gives?
