i know this is frowned upon but have you guys ever bought a broken accessory, bought the exact same thing used like a controller and then return the broken controller to gamestop, i havent done it, but my friend has said that he does and its gamestop fault for not really checking their items

oh i know that part but my friend has used the 7 day thing for his advantage, buy broken wirless controller on ebay for $10,
buy working wireless controller at gamestop for $40, do a switch-roo, tell them you are pissed off that the controller doesnt even work, get your money back. working controller for $10

for me im in the middle, dont know

what is your guys take on it?

I haven't done that, but...

If you buy a used game with cash, play it for 7 days, return it on the 7th day, get your money back, repeat at the next gamestop, it's like a free rental... forever!

I have an unemployed friend who does this quite often with flea market goods for upgrades or credit/cash on stuff. The way he sees it, before he got smart they were stealing from him with their lousy trade-in credit on games and their other tactics. I found that one hard to disagree with other than it was still sticking it to them. He did it once with a busted gamecube controller of mine which surprised me, that's how I found out.

That would be like if you sold a game to someone on eBay and the buyer asked for a refund and sent you a defective copy of the same game back. When you don't give the buyer a refund and PayPal takes the money back anyway when they side with the buyer just because they can prove they sent you something back, I'm guessing you wouldn't be too happy.

If a store has a bad or 'loose' return policy, that is just bad business practice on them. If that eventually sends them into bankruptcy, then shame on them. But dont shame yourself by perpetuating the problem. Their return policy vs your own moral character? Two very different subjects.

You could always quit shopping there.

I wish we had a Like button lol. That sums it up quite nicely. If we know someone here is a scammer, bo we do business with them? Even if we have a chance to shortchange them? I would rather not..

Their is no argument.. it isn't beating the system... if he can't afford a $40 controller maybe he should spend more time job searching than thinking of new ways of getting free things.

Can you list the ways they scam? The PC game being opened is still new if the code isn't used. They just don't want their game stolen by them putting it out.

Legally speaking breaking the seal on a piece of factory merchandise instantly makes it not new. It doesn't matter if the item inside was used persay, but the holder it came in was breached and the contents touched. You're just perpetuating the scam gamestop uses being cheapasses leaving a box out front with the papers in it for funky dirty people to touch and call new when you get stuck with it at the counter instead of using filler boxes or vidpro cards as they should.

I think there is more to the story than that. There is a thread on it but I'm not up on these new games. Apparently gamestop opened every copy of this one game because it came with a code which somehow activating it would cost them money, so they removed the code. It was a bad screw job on their part.

I work in retail so this is quite often a topic of conversation. No its not right.

Behind (or in front?) of every "evil faceless corporation" are the average joes doing their job. By scamming said "big evil faceless corporation" you aren't sticking it to the powers that be. You're putting peoples jobs in jeopardy.

Imagine its the holidays. You're dealing w fifteen customer issues a packed register etc etc and some guy says "I bought this. It didn't work. Fix this situation" you make the customer happy and think you knocked one small problem out of the park.

Your boss finds out you got scammed. Maybe its happened to you before and you get fired.. What then?

The little people get fucked. Not the business. You want to show your displeasure do so with your wallet.

People like your friend disgust me. You know how many people I've caught trying to return different shoes then what's on the receipt, damaged shoes, sometimes NOT EVEN SHOES?
I call security each and every fucking time. Fuck that.

I would say show your friend this thread, then make him reevaluate his choices. If he doesnt, there isnt much you can do.

This. Their prices may be ass but it's not like we're forced to shop there.

I haven't done that, but...

If you buy a used game with cash, play it for 7 days, return it on the 7th day, get your money back, repeat at the next gamestop, it's like a free rental... forever!

I've done that a few times. What's even better is if you do find yourself picking up a title and within that 7-day time frame  they hold a promotion after your purchase (say, 50% off a console's games), you can return it and rebuy under the new price. To illustrate, one time I re-bought 3 cheapo titles after I returned them to take advantage of a buy 2, get 1 free deal, and another time I knocked 50% off a Gamecube game I had bought a few days before their half-off promo. Exploiting their return policy is one thing -- at least they have you coming back to their store. Playing switcheroo....eh, that's dirty.

Nothing. He'll be caught eventually. Let karma handle that shit. One day he'll run into an employee who is smarter then him with a chip on his shoulder towards scammers like me.
