Hey all,
Longtime lurker, thought I'd finally join up.
To make a long story boring, I'm a 26 years old gamer who's finally returning to the promised land of good, old fashioned, classic games. While, I like to think I've always had good taste in modern games-- having really only bought 2d fighters and shooters over the past decade, with the random odd or end here and there-- I have admittedly strayed a bit too far from my roots.
You see, I've been more or less avoiding new games as much as possible, because when I do come across one I tend to foam at the mouth and eventually spit up bile in the general direction of the CRT. Begrudgingly, I've continued to amass new consoles, so I could stay on top of the Street Fighter trend (again, huuge FG nut-- I bought a 360 just to play MvC2 online).
I don't know what it is exactly about NES and the other early consoles, but its probably a mix of nostalgia and the simple charm of a game that was actually limited dramatically by its hardware-- the classics are simple by necessity, but its amazing to think just how much can be done with 8 little bits!
I gotta give a big thanks to my 13-year-old cousin, Luke, whose new-found interest in classic games reminded me of just how special they are. His interest kinda took me aback, if this guy half my age knows what's up then I figure I better get my act in gear!
So just like that, THE PRODIGAL SON HAS RETURNED!
Cheers,
ECZ
