Going forward the competition will have two games running at a time.  They are separate leaderboards, with their own points awarded.  You can compete in one or the other, or both.

September Game #1: Tetris Attack

Rules
  • Goal -> High Score
  • Tiebreaker -> Earlier Level
  • Select the Stage Clear mode
  • Play until Game Over
  • Take a pic of your high score on the Game Over screen
  • No continues allowed
  • The score caps at 99,999.  If you max the score immediately take a picture as the tiebreaker is progression, or lack thereof
  • The Bowser level after Stage 3-5 is a bonus level.  You do not have to defeat him.  Choose to continue if he beats you.
  • I'm unsure if the game shows a high score after beating the game.  Take a pic on the final boss as insurance if necessary.
September Game #2: Super R-Type
Rules

  • Goal -> High Score
  • The difficulty is defaulted to Easy.  Bump it up to Normal
  • Play until Game Over
  • No continues allowed
  • Take a pic of your high score on the Continue? screen
  • Indefinite point pressing, if possible, is forbidden
  • I'm unsure if the game shows a high score after beating the game.  Take a pic on the final boss as insurance

Cool! I'm going to throw my hat in the ring for Tetris Attack. Never played it, guy walked up to my booth at the last expo I did and wanted to trade a CIB for some of my stuff. I have heard great things about it.

I'd never played this before either. From the one game I played, it seems similar to Candy Crush.

I see now that the Tetris Attack score caps at 99,999. So I'm updating the tiebreaker and rules

And I would strongly recommend trying the 2-player for Tetris Attack

Good luck maxing out the score in Tetris Attack.

It's a pretty fun game though. I'm glad there is another option besides the shooter.

I've never played Tetris Attack before today, it's pretty fun! Going to go home and give it some legitimate time and wait to submit a score.

It's very similar to mobile puzzlers. Anyone who plays a lot of those will feel right at home.

It's easily my favorite SNES game.

Absolutely beefed it when Bowser showed up to play. Felt like I was doing pretty well up until then. Blah.

66,100

Totally garbage R-Type score just to participate really. I suck.

Disrespectful to this great game. You mean candy crush is similar to it.

 The Tetris Attack style of gameplay really took off with Bejeweled, Candy Crush, etc.

3-2 is where the difficulty skyrockets for me in Tetris Attack. I can barely get any matches in before the game ends.

Does the bowser special stage count as a game over? I mean if you dont defeat him you go to tge next level. I tgought it was just a point bonus after world 3 that they dont expect you to beat

Haven't read the OP yet, but my brother told me we're playing Tetris Attack!

I don't recall ever playing through the stage clear mode. Gave it a shot just now and maxed the score pretty quick. Slow start, but I started getting chain brain somewhere in the first round.

Kept getting distracted and lost at one point. Oops. Video coming...

Ugh, I should've gone with my instinct and asked about this, too. I quit after Bowser wrecked me.

Edit: It does seem like a different game over screen, with "Try Again" written on it. I played again past Bowser to see it myself, since when I hit Bowser earlier, that was my first time playing. I don't care either way. Ha, my score is still pitifully low compared to what I expect to see from other peeps.

Hmm, I'll have to test it tonight if I have a chance. Sounds like its a scripted loss if it lets you continue on, but that you can defeat him if you're good enough

I'm probably going to say you are allowed to lose to him, and that your motivation to beat him is a huge points boost.

well I got to 5-1 on my second run through. Not bad. Czroe , your bro can go ahead and win the thing I dont care. Frustrating when you get a game specialist in here . This contest should be beneath him lol. Looks like it would be like asking billy mitchell to join a NA donkey kong contest.

Game starts getting tougher mid stage 4 to me. I kept playing for awhile to see how far I could get. Got to 6-4. Felt pretty good. At that point to me its all about having to just see it and be in the zone. You can screw up so easy.

So yeah, the Bowser level will be considered a bonus. You can continue on after failing it
